Run Through Newcastle 10k Race – A 2:52 First KM Was Not In The Plan!

Now aged 40, I race my first proper 10k in 10 years.
Earlier this week I predicted a 31:26 finishing time, but with a very fast first mile from old habits of my head being faster than my legs, I wasn’t sure if things would go to plan and I could hold on!
See how I got on in the race and what I have planned over the coming weeks in my London Marathon build up.
I also chat about a event calendar website I built last week – https://racecalendar.co.uk/ – It’s a user friendly free comprehensive UK race finder, for running events. Give it a try and see what you think!

  1. Well done Ryan. 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Awesome time on your V40 debut and more in the tank. Keep focussing on the journey, don't dwell on the destinations you visit along the way.

  2. Solid marker to build from Ryan! Can totally relate to what you said about the frustration at not being able to compete at the sharp end of a (domestic) race. There's the 1.0 version, and the 2.0 version. You've been through so much, use that strength as fuel!! I was strong through the age group levels, peaking at U20 men stage (regional and county titles, 15th inter counties xc). I then went to uni, got a bad injury, and stopped running (returning last year after 17 years away from the sport). I keep looking back and waiting for the 1.0 version to return….must look forward!! Enjoy watching your vlogs

  3. Was nice to meet you too mate! Best of luck with the London marathon training…I’ll drop my puma contact a nudge and see if they can sort you out with some new weapons 👟🤝😂

  4. Awesome running man! And way to stick with it after going off slightly too quick. So easy to go out quick when it actually feels sustainable at the start of a race and with everyone else around you, at any level. I've got a 10k in Feb (x border 10k Carlisle to Gretna) looking to hopefully break 37 again about just looking forward to getting out there and giving it a good solid effort again. Glad to catch your content again 👊

  5. Wow mate that's brilliant you've been able to build that race calendar website! Thank you! And good to see you back from injury.

The brandability of being fast in your 40s is huge, cemented by such a fast 10k clocking after overcoming big medical setbacks, it is the kind of inspiration a lot of midlife guys getting into or back into sport/running need to see so keep it up.

I'm sure some brands like puma will be interested in sponsor deals when they know the market of late 30s / 40odd year old blokes spend a fortune on trainers! 😅
