What CHANGED for Kevin Korchinski Since His Call-Up to the Chicago Blackhawks?

Kevin Korchinski is back with the Chicago Blackhawks after a call-up from the Rockford IceHogs, and this time he looks like a completely different player. After struggling to stick in the NHL during his previous stint following the Olympic break, Korchinski is now showing more confidence, poise, and impact on the blue line. Jay Zawaski and Mario Tirabassi break down what has changed in Korchinski’s game and whether he can earn a full-time role with the Chicago Blackhawks.

  1. He hasn’t even turned 22 years of age, it takes nearly 300 played pro games according to Chris Pronger for Dmen to start to get it.

  2. I agree I am happy he is getting opportunity The young man did go through a lot losing his Father that I would think would have been hard for a teenager

  3. Korchinski is too young to give up on . Sign to another 3 years and let’s see what we actually got now that he is starting to get his confidence back. Right now I’m more worried about vlasic ,he just brings nothing to the table on the offensive end and as big as he is he needs to be a nasty MFer and start hitting someone . I think Wyatt Kiser is the only left handed d man that I’m sold on. If we draft 4 or later I’m targeting a left handed D like smits first carels second

  4. He's taken advantage of his call up….his stock is rising on the trade market and in the organization too.His recent good play, if he can carry through to the end will only drive the value up more… that's good for the team

  5. Korchinski would be further along had Chicago sent him back to juniors instead of rushing a teenager to the NHL. It was a mistake. Actually I feel the same about Levshunov. The Blackhawks should have let him play his sophomore season at Michigan State. The league is full of really good defenders who played two years in college.

  6. Re:Kevin Korchinski. What has changed? He realizes he is about to lose his NHL career and become a career minor-leaguer. The hourglass has run out of sand.

  7. korchinski was compared to s.theodore after being drafted. theodore spent 2 extra seasons in junior w/ the seattle t-birds (korch spent 1 extra w/ sea) before making his nhl debut in his d+3 year (splitting that season and the next between the ahl and nhl). he didn't really become an nhl reg until his d+5 year (his 1st yr in lv). theodore played in 61 games that season w/ lv, scoring 29pts (6g 23a). korch's d+5 year will be next season. it's too early to throw in the towel on korch.

  8. For cripes sake, he’s 21 years old! AND a defenseman. I’ve been listening to armchair G.M.s saying they should trade him for two years at least, the same folks wanting Davidson and the entire office and coaching fired.
