Ryan McLeod – From UK Half Marathon Champion To Heart Surgery To Getting Fast Aged 40.

So I’ve decided to start a YouTube channel after getting the running bug back aged 40.
I’ve been doing bits of running over the last couple of years to help push my mate in the Great North Run in his wheelchair, but after getting myself into good shape for 2025’s event, I’ve decicided to continue the training and press on into 2026. Who knows where that will take me… Is a marathon on the cards!?

  1. It will be exciting to follow your journey. In 2005 I also had heart surgery. My heart condition was probably not as severe as yours. But sometimes when I just sat down my heart rate would eat 180 without me doing anything. Now I have some other things to deal with. But the most important thing is not to give up and try to make the best of what you have.

  2. Well done on your return to running and general fitness. Great taking your pal round in the wheelchair. You're an inspiration. I've subbed. Good luck for the future

  3. Great video. Thanks for sharing your story. Really pleased this popped up on my feed. Good luck

  4. Instant follow. I’ve had a major heart condition since birth so to know an athlete like you who also has a heart condition is a big motivation for me.

  5. Subscribed! Good to hear you're back to running then! So without wishing to pry, was your heart condition something you were born with or did it develop from running??

  6. Subscribed mate, good luck to you. Also just turned 40 and getting back into running, albeit was never as fast as you!

  7. I'm so glad I was recommended this. Having been a bit demotivated after having the last 4 weeks off due to a knee injury, in reality this is nothing and just a small hurdle to get over on the grand scheme of things. You've already motivated me from this alone, and I look forward to getting back in to my marathon training block because of you! I look forward to hearing about more of your story.

  8. How many time's a week do you run,I started back this year after years out of the sport, I'm 54, I had a heart attack 8 years ago and I have type 2 diabetes, I decided this year to get fit again so I started running again, I run 3-4 day's a week and I also do alot of walking time on feet as they say I recently ran a 5k and was 2nd vet, and finished 5th out of 200, and I also ran the Yorkshire 3 Peaks route 25 miles with a friend, good luck and all the best with your return to the sport, is Mike your father he was a fantastic runner.
