Calgary Flames Acquire Nikita Zadorov & Daniel Vladar

Right when NHL Free Agent Frenzy began for the 2021 offseason. The Calgary Flames completed a couple of trades in between their initial signings ahead of the 2021-22 season. I talked about their initial signings in a separate video.

One of the items that the Calgary Flames needed to address is finding a top four defenseman and a backup goaltender. With the couple of trades that the Calgary Flames have made I felt that they found a top four defenseman in Nikita Zadorov and possible backup goaltender to Jacob Markstrom in Daniel Vladar. Both of these assets also didn’t cost too much as it’s only draft picks and the cap hit is reasonable on both players. These new additions also show a sign that the team is starting to go in a different direction and add more size and grit especially on the blueline with Nikita Zadorov. The Daniel Vladar acquisition is banking on potential and an opportunity.

Calgary Flames still need to sign Nikita Zadorov to a contract as a restricted free agent as the Chicago Blackhawks did qualify him and likely will be at around $3M cap hit. Daniel Vladar is in his entry level contract originally signed by the Boston Bruins that comes with a cap hit of $750k that goes until the 2022-23 NHL Season.
