Another season… another brutal collapse at the worst time for the Wings. Changes are in order!
Let us know, what do YOU think Detroit should do this offseason to make the playoffs next year? And do you think a core shakeup could happen? 🤔#GravGang
Larkin is not going anywhere. Enough clickbait. Enough with this bullshit about trading him. He is a wings fan. He doesn’t want to play anywhere else nor should the wings sacrifice him. Every team would love to have a Dylan Larkin.
Just stop.
Sens would never trade Spence to Detroit at the deadline.
Detroit would have had to beat the Sens to him last year.
you got it. Steve has got to go. Like some other teams, Detroit were a strong team for so long, it's hard to watch utter frustration. 1. mediocre goaltending can't get you from here to there. 2. Star players are absent, nobody here to pick up the slack( because it's a long season). 3. the bottom six haven't contributed in years. The defense is my opinion was not that bad. But I would build by first getting a top tier goalie, whatever the cost. Nobody wins with run
ofthe- mill goaltending. Grav, your analysis is always good. my opinion is trade up for a 1st round pick and use it for g'tender if you can find one.Wait wasn't this year supposed to have a condensed schedule? And everyone has been mentioning it
But then if you look at the games played in March (for the redoing atleast) and they are all within 2 games of eachother with this year not being ANY higher than the others. That doesn't seem like a condensed schedule to me even though it REALLY felt like it
that bottom 6 is atrocious
Back in January, the Red Wings had been 5 standings points up on the Panthers for a top-three divisional spot ( 0:06 ). Instead, the Red Wings would join the Panthers among team that division to miss this coming postseason. No doubt a huge fall and enormous pressure for big, bold changes to the roster and executive.
Who should Detroit take a risk on this offseason? Also should they let Kane walk this offseason?
Forget January 1, they were number 1 on January 25!
How about firing the owner who left $11.3 MILLION in cap space this year – 2nd lowest in the NHL. If Chris Ilitch doesn't come off his wallet and spend to the cap, expet lots of empty seats and red ink. Ilitch's pizza business is losing money and it may be time for him to find an owner with the competitive fire of his dad. Spend to the cap, or sell the team.
As a blues fan. I was ecstatic with the trade and it was for sure an overpay but in Detroits defense Faulk was having an amazing season. Idk where the “Faulk is less of a puck moving defenseman and more of a stay at home goal scoring defenseman” is coming from. He is great at the transition game and joins the rush often… sort of the opposite of what the take here is.
Did you just call him Demitri Ballchinakov? 🤣
So a goal scoring defense man for a team that can’t score was a bad move?
I agree with what you think needs changing….
But reality is if he took risks you suggest the past few years and they didn’t make it, the narrative could be “he should have got more veterans”
Bug issues with opinions like this is recency bias.
The real issue is lack of performance from the depth.
Yzerman was never going to hit it big in drafting because quite frankly there was no franchise guys available save 4-5 up until Bédard and Cellibrini.
*before anyone starts with Lane Hutson, every passed him over twice.
In the end it’s clear Yzerman plan of using veterans to support Larkin, Raymond and Cat up front isn’t working…..
Surgery is needed but it’s in the philosophy the most
They were heatrlhy….. then got injuries and lost it, no one talks about it, they were heatlhy when good.
When talking about top team leadership… I think they should honestly trade Larkin. Hate to say it, but have we ever truly seen him uplift any of the teams when they hit a tough stretch? Good leadership should be able to get them through their March stretches… Coaching sure, but on ice leadership is key. Been a fan all my life since 89.
Unwilling to give up mass of asset to Vancouver for Hughes is the reason why they fail again 😅
If they willing to give up Kasper, Danielson,Edvinsson and two 1st round pick, they already outbid Wild and make the playoffs 😜 😉 🤣
You cannot build a winning team if you don’t have talent or depth. That’s the bottom line. And you need young players. Their rebuild was a failure. They don’t have the talent to be anything other than a playoff bubble team.
You obviously didn't watch any wings games Faulk hasn't been bad at all! Maybe actually watch a game before making stupid comments! 🤡
Can't find a diamond in the rough yet they draft the Hoby Baker winner in the 2nd round.
Faulk has made a bigger impact than everyone thinks.
It’s definitely not the worst trade for the Red Wings.
Offensively, he is a lot better than most of the team's forwards, he moves the puck, takes dangerous shots, and scores goals—all of that from a top-4 defenseman playing alongside Chiarot…
It’s just a shame that this first-round pick was unprotected, but what difference does it make? Yzerman has picked so many prospects whose places are taken by the old farts he signed himself. That first-round pick would've been wasted anyway!
How is Detroit still so old?…That's what is shocking to me the most.
"Becoming a failure" it is a failure no question about it
Wings never got those top of the draft players/picks. They needed to tank harder for longer.
This team.was frauds all season bro, you didnt want them at all, and its clear. They wete propped up by Gibson and Special teams. Wings are dogshit 5v5
The team started out crazy and Gibson broke down. There was a bit of patience that made it a disaster. If they never won 30 games to start it wouldn’t have seemed so bad. Just maybe next season they win down the stretch. They just need another player or two to step up. Also yzerman never said this season was playoffs or bust. That’s just you idiots. They showed with a few more wins they would be a playoff team. They now know they need a couple more goal scorers. The early season numbers were not great and they were showing chunks in the armour. Those chimks got exposed. Larkin played on one leg. They can’t have Larkin on one leg. They need another C to step up. Kasper was supposed to be better. Finne was a great surprise. Edvinson had an up and down. Johanson became a good d ma and he will be a great 2 or 3 next season. Charot to third. Staring with Faulk will allow ASP to start on the third. They will have another young guy to work in as well. The Faulk trade showed that they just need better defensive schemes. They can start with Faulk and that will help. This team next season will be a lot tougher. Eventually you get over the hump. They really need a Carter bear to become the guy he projects to be. If that happens they have their scoring winger. I feel they are gonna give Finne A shot a that C spot as well. It’s right where they need to shitnor getboff the pot. Faulx weighing the rem down? Cmon they just aren’t quite as good as Boston or the sens right now. That changes internally within three seasons and they are the dominant team perhaps. One thing is for certain Buffalo got over the hump. It can happen over night when it’s really ready.
If you are going to compare Pittsburgh who had an older core that had Crosby and malkin resurging. The wings have rebuilt from zero. Cmon. You wanna be hockey experts need to be smarter with assessing things. Don’t be foolish. You’ll
Lose viewers with dumb takes like you are putting out there.
reminds me of the old lions, they CAN win, but they collapse if things get shakey, like they get depressed and lose before they get on the field
Kuch with 2🎉
Gibson and Faulk? Why are people listening to this guy?
The fact Detroit has never had a number #1 overall pick, let alone a #2 overall pick, let alone a #3 overall pick, is why they are where they are. The rest wouldn't matter too much with a game changer like Celebrini. That's basically the gist of it. Every single rebuilding team has picked inside the top 3 (Ottawa- Stutzle #3), (Buffalo – Dahlin #1, Power #1), (NYI – Schaefer #1), (Hawks – Bedard #1) (SJ – Celebrini #1), (MTL – Slaf #1) the list goes on and on. Red Wings – Lucas Raymond #4.. and he performs like a fourth overall 😂 If this team had a Macklin Celebrini they would have finished top 5 overall. Vancouver will select McKenna and the team will instantly make playoffs. Moral of the story, you absolutely need lottery luck or youll be a mediocre team until you get it 😂
Are u telling me our missing the po streak is longer than the Blackhawks ?! Holy $*** fire everyone in the front office & trade every player getting paid millions but play like an AHL player 🤬🤬
Becoming?
I have said this for years. Detroit needs another Center! And yeah for that second top 2 center they will have to take a risk, such as for example taking on the majority or the full Cap of EP40's contract.
I’ve never understood Detroits plan. They have almost completely given up on reclamation projects which they should be all over until their prospect pool is ready for the NHL. I mean blues took one of red wings reclamation guys in berggren and he has been a grea playmaker for the blues bottom 6. The blues just sign so many old vets at the backend of their career.
Bottom six need complete change, bringing up Cossa should give Gibby the support he needs, and bring in a true scorer on the top line with Larkin and Raymond.
Yzerman needs to go
Just say you don't actually watch the Red Wings off the rip.
Faulk was not the problem. The backend in Detroit begins and ends with Mo Seider. Faulk was an instant upgrade on the second pair when you look at the other available options.
The biggest problem they have is scoring depth. They have one full scoring line and it's separated onto two lines, except when they are on the power play. Detroit can't score goals on 5v5. They need a top 6 center and a top 6 left winger. Their bottom six needs to be replaced and that's where most of their prospects come in. They need to drop Appleton, Compher, Copp, Rasmussen and replace them with players like MBN, Danielson, and Mazur. I think trading Soderblom was a mistake, he just wasn't being utilized properly and it's showing now that he's in Pittsburgh.
In terms of pro-scouting and free agency, I'm not going to defend a lot of the contracts, but I don't think they were targeting old guys intentionally. I think they didn't have a choice. The top tier players don't want to come to Detroit because of the playoff drought. Most top free agents already know where they are signing before July 1st and they want to go to competitors, so Detroit is stuck signing older and lower end guys that seem like a proven quantity. The struggle is that most of those guys just haven't thrived in Detroit, so those signings look really bad.
I am not however an Yzerman apologist. He's had an uphill battle during the entirety of his tenure as GM, but he has to find a way to entice big players to sign here and make big moves that have a positive impact. I think if the Wings miss the playoffs next season it will be his last as GM in Detroit, and rightly so.
At least this off-season should be simple we know what we need now, revamp the forward group, Rasmussen-gone, Compher-gone, Perron-gone, we need a true #1 center i can live with Copp as a 3rd line center but there's still a lot of times he just looks like hes skating around lost put there, and my dream would be to bring Bertuzzi back, he has the fire the team is missing
Kasper is a bust—attach a pick or another prospect and go get Kent Johnson. He could be a 60–80 point player for us.
That bottom 6 is horrendous jesus
Nope, Dylan Larkin is Detroit Red Wings for all life.
Gotta hit you with a dislike for promoting betting.
