They will get an initial bump, but not long term, just another recycled coach,. This is all on the players, it's not like we have a team of rookies, far far from it.
Over the past 2 weeks, other teams have gone into playoff mode, checking has become harder and defenses have tightened up. In the same period, the Isles have become more sloppy and have been left in the dust. Not sure if the move will work out but I think Roy showed that he wasn’t the guy to take this organization to the next level. No excuse for the level of play up and down the roster but they haven’t looked prepared to play for a while now. Without Sarokin record would be much worse.
It's not complicated: The Islanders are a sub-500 team that is not that talented. The team played way, way above their baseline all year due to Sorokin standing on his head this season with a horrendous defense unit in front of him and an 18 year old phenom, that's it. If not for those 2, the Islanders would have lost 10-15 more games this year. What's stunning is Darche instead of seeing what he had this season and open roster slots and cap space for youth, traded for Schen (-30!) and Palat at the trade deadline and is now stuck with these way too old diminished players at $6 million per year for the next 1-2 years and resigned JG Pageau for another 3 years when he should have been trade for value. All 3 slots needed to go to youth to rebuild. Blame Roy all you want, the issue is on the ice not behind the bench. You can bring in Al Arbour and that still wouldn't help.
I’m roy fan but I knew the reality darche didn’t hire Roy and this was inevitable. Might as well do it now before other coaching jobs opened up after the season. Also what’s with the French inflection when you say Roy’s name 😂
Only in the NHL will a team headed for the playoffs, and then fire their coach (without something serious off-field/ice incident happening, like a DWI). Wow.
Everyone saying he was getting fired in the off season. If the isles had gone 2-2, or 3-1 in the last 4, and cruised to a 2nd or 3rd place finish, does he still get fired? Or is it the last 4 games only?
Darche has done everything he can, whether it works or not as a different conversation. It’s now on the players to prove how much they want it. We’ve changed coaches several times with the same core and gotten the same results. Need to start changing some of the players somehow.

With 4 games left? How desperate of Darsche to try and hide the fact his TDL acquisitions were all mistakes lmao
NHL coaches seem to make the rounds the way the same Hollywood actors are in every other movie.
The players failed Patrick Roy and it is sad to hear him gone from the NY Islanders.
I think this should have happened a couple games ago.

Happy Easter
Maybe this was going to happen regardless. Now MD can bring in people we wants ?🤷🏻♂️. Since the Olympic break this team has been down more than up.
Vegas set the trend, everyone follows
I don't think Roy is a great coach but I don't like how this implies the team is trying to fast forward this re-tool.

Now DeBoer has to write two letters 😉 The old Russian Khrushchev joke.
Not roy fault. The defense with all the old farts are the problem.

He looks like General Zod.

De Boer it’s more of a structure guy in the vein of Barry trotz so maybe that will help
Just stumbled on your channel. How come your French is so good? Are you really from Long Island?
Roy didn’t deserve to be fired
