I have a thesis : Mitch Marner was hurt during the playoffs. I don't know whether the injury happened before the playoffs or during it. Several times I saw him with both arms hanging down when he should have had his stick up. You guy's have the video's, just a thought.

I didn't see him as a $5M player, there just wasn't enough production. Domi was closer to that level of play. I would definitely try to re-sign Gregor he has great speed, compete, and is rarely caught out of position.

This tells allyou need to know about the Kyle Doofus era. Both these players everyone wants to retain and yet, if Doofus was still GM, we wouldn't have either of them. The Doofus era wanted skill over everything else at the expense of heart, soul and tenacity which is necessary in playoff hockey when skill itself is not enough.
Resign domi bertuzzi lybushkin and edmundson
Both Matthews and Tavares had 50% more hits/60 than Bertuzzi in the playoffs. A realistic expectation would be Mogilny dominate in the regular season and prop up Gary Roberts in the regular season, in the playoffs, Gary Roberts would dominate and prop up Mogilny. There's so much criticism towards Marner, but how much room did his winger create? You need someone who's the 'man' come playoff time and Bertuzzi isn't it. Imagine Clark or Roberts in Bertuzzi's place? Boston could build the Siegfried Line out there and they'd break it down. I'd rather take the $10.5 Bertuzzi and Brodie got and offer it to Stamkos… even his hits/60 was higher than Bertuzzi.

The worst news we could get is that they’re keeping the core together AND they’re moving around a bunch of pieces they only just slotted this season.
I actually think the core plan has a great chance next year if we solidify the team we currently have and solidify the lines as much as possible. Get these guys playing together the whole season.
None of this ‘let’s move everyone around so much that no line mate is distinguishable from another’ crap.
If that happens towards the early-middle of next season, I’m gonna find a new team to cheer for until I see some kind of sense in management.
We saw how simple hockey won us games 5 and 6. It’s that kind of simple strategy that will win us a cup; especially a spec ed team like the leafs.
Might be a good idea to trade Max Domi for Suzuki from the Canadians. Domi doesn't look effective in closing out. Playing overtime looks like he has run out of gas . All the prone injury players need to be reviewed or get them traded for a value

As long Bert comes back at close to the same AAV. i don't think hes a 7 to 8 million dollar player because his offemce isn't consistent. Domi coming back is a no brainer,

The cap will be OK when they deal off or get re-signings at a lower rate of a COUPLE OF THE FAB(?) FOUR. Domi (a keeper)needs to work on a" SHOOT FIRST" mentality. He gave up too many good chances by passing off; also eliminating the dumb CROSSCHECKS ! Bertuzzi (a keeper)needs to work on receiving passes. He probably leads the team in passes bouncing off his stick, incomplete! MARNER ( should be a keeper with adjustments) is the lightest LEAF . At the end of the season and playoffs, he paid for his corner battles by becoming the definition of Emptyness; in other words, "a turd lying by the side of the road with the SHZT kicked out of it". Ever notice that Matthews (Keeper) bgproduction goes down at the same time Marner's does, but earlier in the season MARNER is in on 50-70% of Matthew's goals. Hit the gym Mitch with the weights and put on 20+ # of upper body mass and strength so THERE'S something left that the end of the season! Everybody ( but me and my buddy John) is in love with Rielly, but an examination of his +/- shows a small + despite reasonable point production. May be time to trade him to a team needing an offensive rearguard, and get a couple of actual defensemen, not rovers who try to play defence! Keep Edmunston, McCann, Robertson, and Lyubushkin at least.
I can't help but think that whatever money they would spend on Bertuzzi can be spent better elsewhere. Unless something gives, there are 5 players on the Leafs with NMCs gobbling up $54M of the cap. Regardless of the wishful thinking of Leafdom, this team has one more season in cap purgatory unless they shoot themselves in both feet again by handing out even more ridiculous contracts..
Bertuzzi is a 20 goal scorer at his peak. I’d rather take the risk on a free agent than resign him again for 5 million➕
