Nashville Predators Survive Third Period Onslaught to Even Series with Vancouver Canucks

The Nashville Predators faced off against JT Miller, Quinn Hughes and the Vancouver Canucks for game 2 of their Stanley Cup playoff series last night. While it may not have been pretty, Juuse Saros, Filip Forsberg and the Predators held on to get a 4-1 win and even the series. On today’s Locked On Predators we recap last night’s game including our “One word” to describe the game. Despite the loss of Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko ahead of game 2, it was Juuse Saros who earned much of the attention especially for his play in a tough third period for the Predators. We break down the statistics and hear from head coach Andrew Brunette on how Nashville was able to withstand Vancouver’s pressure in the last twenty minutes. The Predators got big goals in the second period that helped win the game. What did Filip Forsberg, Anthony Beauviller, and Colton Sissons do that needs repeating in games 3 & 4 at Bridgestone Arena? Finally, we give a shout out to one area of Nashville’s game that hasn’t always earned kudos this season and look ahead to the party headed to Smashville this weekend.

  1. Defense was much better. I think there were more blocked shots than Saros saves, but we can't win the series like that. I think we got most of the puck bounces too (luck). And of course, we're playing their backup goalie. The 3rd period was one long PK. I hate to see them 5 on 5 and sitting back, defending like they're on the PK. Who's call is that? Get aggressive! The Canucks certainly are. They're on whoever has the puck like white on rice, and it works. We can't hold onto the puck for more than a few seconds before they're right back in our zone. Forsberg showed up to this game at least, but Josi is completely MIA still. We can do better.

  2. If the Preds keep sitting back with the lead along with blocking 30+ shots a game – getting to the 2nd round will be just getting there. They will be too bruised and hurt to go further.

  3. There is a video out there of the post game interview with JT Miller. The reporter asks Miller “What did you see out there in the 3rd period?” His response was “A yellow jersey in front of me.” Later he said “everytime I looked up there was Ryan Mac. 😀😂

  4. Of the 120 minutes played in this series – the Preds have trailed for only 10-11 minutes. The remaining minutes tied or had the lead.

  5. Vancouver fan spying on the ‘enemies’ here 😉 Preds did what they had to do for the win, fair and square. Definitely a frustrating game from our POV. With the loss of Demko, it seems the Nucks were holding their sticks a bit too tight, missing shots, and making errant passes way more than usual. That said, we did mostly play well but just lacked that finishing touch. Looking fwd to the games in Nashville…
