  1. Gotta hope the habs are open to trading matheson. Playing guhle on the right is dumb and matheson won't be here when we're ready to compete. Habs also have a great cap situation going forward, they can afford to pick up a big talent in FA, but should probably wait until next year.

  2. Godin : What is your definition of high offensive talent? … Is it some guy who scores 35 goals 5-10 /185 pounds who does not do much when he does not have the puck, who has 2 hits per 60 minutes played .. Or is it the 20 goal scorer 6-2 / 210 pounds with 20 goals a year but can bodycheck the opponents best forward and retrieve the puck. at a 80% ratio and has 10 hits per 60 minutes played?

  3. They'd be stupid to move a 1st or 2nd rounder for a player. Suzuki is the old man of their core and he has 7 or 8 peak years left.

  4. Necas, …. Pacioetty …. PLD …. Mantha … Zegras ….. are as soft as a pregnant rabbits. Stay away from guys that look tuff but will never use their bodies to retrieve the puck from their opponent.

  5. This is exactly why I think Montreal will not “Take a big Swing Up Front”
Because we have a better shot at drafting that player this year than trading for one.

  6. Why continue to add castoffs from other teams? It's not working very well so far. Dach, Newhook, and Dvorak, are all injury prone and fragile! From what I've seen of the playoffs so far, most of our team would be injured after a couple of games. If teams are trading players it's because they are poor at competing, or not worth their a raise in their contracts. Montreal has always been an org. that want to do things on the cheap. Even when they had winning teams, they were known for underpaying their top players, using the chance at a cup as a bargaining chip to offer lower salaries. If you want top talents who also have the drive to win, you have to draft them, or, get them through the use of offer sheets. Dach is a good player but he cant stay healthy. What use is a highly talented player if he cant be on the ice due to frequent injuries! Why give away draft picks for second grade players. It's not going to lead to a winning situation in the short, or, long term!

  7. With Dach, Suzuki, Beck and Evans they potentially have very good depth at center.

As of now all signs point to having a potentially amazing defense.

Draft a foward this year and trade a dman plus picks for another.

With the absence of 14 million dollar players and the cap going up, there should be enough money to fill out the lineup via free agency and players already in the system. 2025 possible free agents list is pretty impressive

No need to start emptying the cupboards.

  8. Forget about adding a “top6” player, Montreal needs to add to the top3 … having only 60-70 something point scorers on the first isn’t enough to take the next step.

Adding to the top will push down high end talent and strengthen the top6, simply adding players that are technically or barely top6 material with a top3 on the weak side is far from enough and has already been attempted multiple times with barely any success.

  9. The Habs will hit this draft hard for TWO TOP 10 PICKS (Iginla & Lindstrom), building from within by adding to what they have now, the TIME IS NOW because next year they WILL be better and their own pick will be 10th – 15th. 5 players' contracts will be up and they'll be replaced: Mesar for RHP, Tuck for Pezz, Beck for Dvo, Kaponen for Armia, Mailloux for Savard, Hutson for Struble etc.. That's just my take, HUGO can't say more than "watch out we're flexible and well armed with talent to trade. Next season they'll have great players wanting in and willing to get a "team first" salary.

  10. I see Habs can make a play for a Clayton Keller; Wpg pick, Mailloux, Struble/Harris and a Beck/Mesar or similar player. Mailloux is a 6'3 RHD that shows potential to score 10-15 goals at the NHL level, he is ready to play now. He likely won't score 10 next yr, but he is likely to score 30 pts in his rookie season on a decent team. Struble/Harris are good 4th/5th defensemen and Beck/Mesar show middle 6 potential. That is a good cheap strong young core to build around.

  11. Don’t use the Canucks as a team to exemplify, their top 6 is weak, miller, Boeser and Petterson and that’s it. 3 of 6 won’t cut it.

I’ll take Montreal’s top 6 with future over Canucks current build.

Don’t even get me started on their D

Hughes, Hronek and ….? Soucy, Cole, Myers all bottom pair on any contender.

Suzuki, Dach, Slaf, Caufield, Newhook, hopefully Roy.

If Montreal can land a Matchessault or Necas bye bye Vancouver.

    Montreal’s Defense over Vancouver.

Miller and Demko are the only items Vancouver has that Montreal doesn’t.

    Petterson – Suzuki / Dach

    Boeser – Caufield

    Hughes- Hutson

  12. "Marc" drop the accent before I bonjour/hi you

Edit: nice popcorn ceiling, good luck getting rid of it. I suggest watering it, placing a plastic sheet below, and scraping it. While praying the mess is worth cleaning

  13. To answer the question. YES. First and foremost you have to look at teams who have top talent that are still below 30 years of age and who are on the verge of having to rebuild their teams and have almost zero draft capital over the next few years. We have an abundance of young talent so a 2-3 prospects, maybe a young player, and 2-3 draft picks should get you a top player. BUT, if giving up the first round pick means I get a player like Draisaitl or Rantannan you best believe I'm making that deal. We definitely need one high point player on the team preferably two. Dach, Suzuki, Slaf, and Caufield should all be near a point a game and then have two guys hitting the 100 point mark. But none of that won't matter unless we improve our goalie situation which is why I think Montreal needs to go after Swayman. But all this is really dependent on dumping a bunch of players and their contracts.

  14. Vegas made a fearsome team by getting every team's 13th best player, It is a matter of balance. So getting a couple of good offensive players (20 plus goals with good 2 way play) while holding on to their core defense makes the Canadiens a playoff team.

  15. I agree we have a surplus of promising young Defenseman I would trade Reinbacher for Filip Forsberg if possible. we need a 30 goal scorer and someone with playoff experience to guide our young core. also Forsberg is 29 so he should be good for the next 4-5 years.

  16. The Dubois trade was kind of like this if you accept the premise that he was a high end talent. I actually don't think he is or was but clearly the Kings did.

  17. Would you like MTL to do a Fiala type deal? Top 4 d-man prospect + mid 1st round pick in exchange for high-end top 6 forward

  18. One top tier player is worth much more than a bunch of second tier players. It is really important to get the best player available.

  19. of course they can, they will need to move some D to do it, I wouldn't be opposed to trading Guhle for a top RW power forward, then draft dickenson at 5, much better prospect,

  20. 1. Draft Tij Iginla 2. Trade Winnipeg 1st, Primeau and K.Ghule for Y. Askarov. 3. 2024 COL 2nd, 2025 MTL 1st and O.Beck for M.Necas

  21. There comes a time where the 17 yr.old…18 yr.old…pick…is not in your time line to win.!! Prospects ..21..22 yr.olds …are farther along in their development and fit your window much better in team builds !! We are getting close to …THAT time …!! Plus there is no guarantees on top picks ….Yakapov…..etc. Hughes likes 22 – 23 yr. Olds with some Pro game time …This summer …will he make a big move to speed the scoring numbers up …and move the timeline up as well??? Lets hope he makes the right moves !!
