How Surprising Are the Nashville Predators’ Regular Season Performances and Playoff Appearance?

The Nashville Predators are securely in the first wildcard spot in the Western Conference and on today’s Locked On Predators we ask ourselves “Can you believe it or not?”. We take a look back at the regular season highs and lows and check the receipts – what did we REALLY expect was going to happen with players like Filip Forsberg and Juuse Saros? We share what the one biggest concern heading into the 2023-2024 season was with this Nashville roster and eat a little crow as we break down the actual statistics. We encourage our listeners to ask themselves if they would have believed the overall reception among the fan base would be positive when two big contracts were announced, and we explain why we were right back in October that Roman Josi could be a Norris Trophy finalist…sort of.

  1. When are we going to start talking about the fact that Forsberg has not only improved his own game, but he has clearly become a terrific playmaker? Let’s compare the success of players who have played with and without Forsberg over the past few seasons. In most if not all cases, these players have had their best production when playing with #9.

  2. In all my years as a Preds fan, I know better than to question Forsberg, Josi, and Saros. The biggest difference after getting rid of Johansen, Duchene, and Eckholm have been the emergence of the youngsters. I’m excited for our future.

  3. I actually thought the Preds could make the playoffs this year way back in September. But I thought it would be Tomasino breaking out for 60-70 points, not Nyquist. And I thought Cody Glass could blossom into a top-two Center, while I thought O'Reilly would be a decent 40-point 3rd line Center with experience, but not a top line forward. And I thought Saros would have carried the team on his back instead of merely being average-to-solid. What I was right about was Forsberg scoring 40+ goals again. He's an elite forward who has been plagued by injuries and held back by so-so linemates like Ryan Johansen. I always felt he could score 50 goals one day, and he still might.
