  1. He's statistically worse in the playoffs, by a wide margin. That's not necessarily meant as harsh criticism, but it eliminates the excuse of the team failing him. He's 3 years away from it at this pace if he doesn't get at least a Cup Final. Sooner if he reaches the Finals or actually wins it all.

  2. Adjusted to the 81-82 average goals: Matthews 70 goal season comes out to 90.25 goals. Ovechkin's 65 in 07-08 comes out to 93.75.

    I'm adjusting by taking average goals per game per team in 81-82 (4.01) and dividing that by the later seasons number (2.78 and 3.11 respectively) and then multiplying the result by the players real amount of goals to get it up to the Gretzky era level. So Matthews becomes 90.25, but Ovi's 65 goal season becomes 93.75. So Ovi already has arguably the greatest goal scoring season of all time right?

  3. Once the hats fall, its a hat trick. Whether he scored another or not. He did not expect to score the fourth. So Jesse is taking the hat trick away. Not, not giving it in the first place, but taking away what they'd rightfully earned.

  4. So, a hat-trick is when you score your third goal of a game. Not when you only score 3 goals in a game.

    Gretzky holds the hat-trick record with 50 hat-tricks.

    Breakdown of goals in a game
    3 = 37 times
    4 = 9 times
    5 = 4 times.

  5. Do you wait till the end of the game to throw your hat on the ice? No, a hat trick is not ending a game with 3 goals, itā€™s your 3rd goal in a game. Everyone knows this though.

  6. I disagree with Jesse. If a player scores four or more goals in a game, they still got a hat trick at the point when they hit 3 goals. The hat trick isnā€™t what you end the game with – itā€™s when you score three goals in a game. If you score four, you already had the hat trick. Same for Matthews having a 50 goal season. Of course he has – he had a 50 goal season when he scored 60 goals, and he has had a 50 goal AND 60 goal season this year, because he scored that many as he was passing through that number. Ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

  7. That was the dumbest piece of logic anyone of SDPN ever said. He had a hat trick in his first game plus 1. The fact that he hit 4 doesn't take away that he hit 3. Same as the 60 goals. He had to hit 50 first. I want the brain cells you guys burnt back on that one. Wow šŸ˜…šŸ˜…

  8. If a 4 goal game isnā€™t a hat trick, are you supposed to take back all the hats that rained down? A 4 goal game is a hat trick plus one. Just like a 6 goal game is a double hat trick. And a 70 or 60 goal season is also a 50 goal season because you had to hit 50 to get to 60 or 70.

  9. If thereā€™s no deep playoff run, forget it. Letā€™s see some real playoff success first.

  10. Why not the road trip to Florida. It is where his first playoff round will start. Why not relax in the sunshine on the beach. He does not have kids or a wife yet, so…

  11. Matthews needs 33 goals to hit 400 career goals. He has 74 games to do it faster than Ovechkin, 48 games to do it faster than Kurri (5th), and 40 games to join Gretzky (436šŸ˜®), Bossy (506), Lemieux (508) and Hull (520) to do it in less than 600 games.

  12. Are you sure you want to call a guy with zero playoff runs the ā€œGreatest Leaf of All Timeā€?

    Auston is a great sniper like OV and Selanne and Hull. You could maybe even suggest Matthews is the Greatest Leaf goal scorer.

  13. I did not watch this video, I am basing this comment only on the video's name. I am a diehard Leafs fan, and my answer is that Auston Matthews is not the greatest Leaf, it's not even close. Yet. People forget because it has been so long, but the Leafs have more Stanley Cup wins – by far – than any other team but one. There were great players on those winning teams, players who led them to multiple cup wins. THEY are the greatest, and forever will be, until a new generation of Leafs are able to hoist at least one cup. Auston Matthews has the greatest potential to be the next one, but winning talks and bullshit walks. It is so sad for us Leaf fans, it has been so long that we forget, or never knew, their greatness, and now think greatness is as simple as scoring goals.

  14. Johnny Bower is the greatest Leaf of all time, On and off the ice the man was a the perfect example of a great human being and athlete, Matthews lacks the character and championships that alot of the leafs all time greats have I would consider Kessel the greatest forward of leafs history just because if he had been given 2 Olympic level lines like Auston has he'd have more rings then he does now.

  15. I love the Matthews accolades and all that jazz, but if he doesnā€™t get a championship with that teamā€¦what does it matter? Seriously.

    Itā€™s a goddamn team sport. McDavid is in a similar situation and i feel his best years are just being wasted.

  16. Crosby or mathews šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ I'll take Crosby. Mathews will never win good luck leafs

  17. You need to win mathews has played like ass in the playoffs. Greatest have championships very simple.

  18. You can't un-hattrick a hattrick. You score 3, you have one. Done. You score 4, you've started on your second one in that game.

  19. Heā€™s the greatest lead ever your smoking rock or just a hater if you donā€™t think so

  20. I think you guys should reconsider Mathews for the Hart trophy. We really gonna give it to someone with more points… lots of secondary assists not even during even strength. cmon. Mathews better at Mack too in faceoffs, hits, blocks, less giveaways, everything.
