It’s hard to measure success for the Calgary Flames until they actually hit the ice. Yes the preseason may provide some hints as to how their season is expected to go, but a better indicator of whether they have a chance of seeing playoff action is how they are doing, during the regular season, as Halloween approaches and mid-November. Last season the Canucks, after 10 regular-season games, had managed to earn just 6 points. The only really good month the Canucks had had was March although by then, they had been so far back of a playoff spot they had looked unlikely to qualify. That the Flames have made relatively few changes to their roster from mid-April suggests to me they’re no more likely to see playoff action this season as last.
