Because he has a longer contract with the least possibility of being gone by next summer

No. Not because he is not worthy. We don’t need our best defenseman dealing with the shitshow that is Vancouver media. It will grind him down and burn him out.

>”To be a captain is an extraordinary honour,” said Hughes. “It’s really special, but to be honest, it’s not my main focus. Getting an ‘A’ (alternate) wasn’t my main focus either, and when they told me after the (All-Star Game) break that I was getting one, I was happy.
>“I have a lot of things on my mind. I want to be in the playoffs and keep taking my game to another level. They don’t need to do it (captaincy) soon. If they give it a year or two year, or whenever they decide to do it, I don’t think anybody feels pressure in here, or that they need to do something.”
Doesn’t sound like someone who wants to be captain anytime soon.
These articles are sick. I can’t wait for the next one.
Hughes is our quarterback. I voted for Miller, but I also vote for Hughes tehe

Quinn’s the guy. 100%

There are things that as fans we will never see that they will take into consideration when they will choose the captain.
But Tocchet for example said it clearly that Quinn is the one who became a leader in the locker room this year and was able to say uncomfortable things to the room calling out teammates and coaches last year when things weren’t going well. Dakota Joshua also said Quinn snapped at practice telling guys to pick up the pace. If teammates and coaches respect him and listen to him, he’s the right choice.
In the same interview Tocchet said Petey is a quiet guy who needs to work on his leadership skills and is uncomfortable speaking in front of his teammates.

Hughes with the C, Petey and Miller with the As makes a good leadership core.
Hughes has the difficult conversations and is the smart guy that is the “coach” on the ice.
Petey is the guy you look to emulate and is our best skill player who leads not with words but by example.
Miller is the passionate leader, he’ll yell at you if you make a boneheaded mistake but will also drop the gloves if an opponent takes a cheap shot.
They balance each other out well in leadership styles and our best players.

1. It’ll cement him staying here for a bit longer. 2. It’ll basically mean the other Hughes brothers sign here too.

pettersson is not going to re-sign, especially if we miss again this year. quinn is kinda our only hope, and even then he has two brothers in new jersey…
