Will Sidney Crosby crack the top 10 of the NHL’s all-time points leaders this season?

Welcome to the dead zone! Hunter starts the show by discussing Ty Smith’s contract and what it means for the Penguins this upcoming season. Is he going to be able to take a spot in the lineup every night? Is the battle against PO Joseph going to be that much more interesting? Hunter also looks at how the Penguins need to be careful with Smithy because he is no longer waivers exempt. He will now have to go through waivers in order to be sent down to WBS this upcoming season. He also dives into his numbers from this past season and analyzes what makes him stand out more than POJ and vice versa. After that, Hunter looks at how Sidney Crosby is looking at a couple of significant milestones this upcoming season. Hunter analyzes Sid’s chances at getting into the NHL’s all-time points leaders this season and how many points he needs, despite him about to be 36. He then looks at how he’s approaching the 1,000-assist mark and how it’s going to be a special night when he gets that milestone. Finally, he ends the show with a full list of games that should be must-watch/must-sees for fans this upcoming season.

  1. Hunter can you put your mic closer to you,I’m on max volume and it’s hard to hear you?

  2. I think they could keep both up and waive, Chad. I doubt Chad gets taken, and if so, you have Friedman. This is assuming nothing happens with Karlsson. poj and smith both have more upside than Chad and make the d more offensive and faster. One can start at the 7 d spot and with injuries still play a lot of hockey.

  3. I would not mind a smith/Rutta 3rd pairing. But i would really like them to move Petry out. Dont care what they get back as long as they get out from under that $6.25M for this year and next.

  4. For Sidney Crosby, I have no doubt he will crack the top 10 this season. He keeps himself in great shape, and I think the bottom 6 is a little better than last season. It of course will be dependent on staying healthy, but I see no reason that 87 cannot crack the top 10 this season.

Ty Smith and PO are going to be an interesting scenario, because The Penguins currently have a log jam at defense with Letang, Pettersson, Graves, Petry, Smith, Joseph, Rutta, Ruhwedel, Mark Friedman, and Owen Pickering in the pipeline also. Dubas, has another move up his sleeve, whether it's Karlsson or not, Dubas is making another move before the season starts and it will involve a defenseman being moved. To me, I would like to see more of Ty Smith, because I see some of Mike Matheson in him, a great skater and offensive instincts.

I know Dubas is not a fan of buyouts, but it should be interesting to see if he may utilize one after the salary arbitration is settled with Drew O'Connor.

  5. Couple of stat corrections. Crosby has played 157 less games than Ovi vs 250 stated and Crosby has averaged at least a point per game in all seasons played and can tie Gretzky’s record of 19 seasons this year.
