In a word, yes. He’s rooting for BIG contracts for AM and Nylander, which will strengthen his bargaining position, according to the article.
Maple Leafs will never win with this guy in the roster. At least Nylander or AM is someone the opposition fears come the playoff time. Teams know they can manhandle Marner when checking is tighter.

He did get bodied pretty hard against Florida and was completely ineffective, as was most of the team.
I’m absolutely ready for a change. Something has to change. Can’t have 4 of your top guys being soft players. In the playoffs you need to play physically.
For sure, and are you surprised?
They all want the cup, but people typically (of course there are exceptions) look out for themselves first.
What do you do for work? Do you care more about your company’s mission over your salary?
Can’t say for sure marner does but his dad certainly does and he’s the number 1 person he listens to.
As much as we wish for them to each take 75 to 80% of the bag, and allow the team more financial flexibility to improve the roster moving forward, we know they won’t.
It’s incredible how many people forget that it’s a fucking job
Yes 💯
These guys are all doing it for work, and almost no players in the prime of their career take true discounts.
All these players likely dream of winning the Cup and Mitch is no different, but at the end of the day this is a job for each and every player.
Most star players are incredibly rich beyond what we can fathom, but for some reason people only think the money has tainted our players. Our players undoubtedly want to win (they’re competitive athletes) but also all players want to get paid. Both are true, articles like this are just dumb.
Brad is in a tough spot, he has 2 choices
1. Overpay Nylander, Matthews, Marner (an extra $7.5M). Keep the core together, and hope the cap actually goes up this time. Dump Tavares as soon as he is a UFA, as use the $11M to give Nylander two Top 6 forwards to play with, who can keep up with his speed.
2. Trade one of the big 3, and use that as leverage to squeeze every dollar of the other 2 contracts. If they don’t bend the knee, trade them both if it comes to it. And rebuild the core with new players that won’t take advantage of him. Rather than spending $37M on three forwards, use that on 4-5 guys which will deepen the line-up, and hopefully help in the playoffs
He’s well positioned with AM contract so I blame on our last GM than the player/agent. It’s their job to get paid as much as possible versus GM’s job to mediate reasonable term with it’s star players.
Big payday
