Why not, right? I doubt any team is giving him an 8 year deal. This is probably just for teams to get a head start on a deal with him before other teams can.

Nolan Foote deserved to stay up whenever he got called up, hopefully its time to give him a longer look
Hearing a lot about players going out, but a little concerned about the lack of news about who’s coming in.
Foote/Lazar will probably split the 4th line LW, but haven’t heard anything about how Fitz will replace Shrango/Tatar. I have my wishes but its a bit odd that we haven’t heard anything about what Fitz is looking at to replace the losses.
Edit: I have full confidence in Fitz, but by his own admission he’s kinda transparent. When the devils are shopping we usually hear something along the lines of the devils are looking for “this type of player.”

If you have zero intentions of re-signing the player this is the best thing to do. The player can field offers officially instead of behind closed doors and get the best offer available. Who knows we might get a 7th but it’s better than nothing and worst case we did right by Miles.

I understand the moves to let Severson, Wood, Sharangovich, Blackwood, and likely Graves and Tartar go.
That said, all these guys contributed to the best regular season in Devils history. Hopefully we can replace this depth with some quality players besides just rookies. Don’t be surprised if the team takes a step back next year and is not as high in the standings. I think they’ll still be a playoff team, but a drop off seems inevitable.
I know this is probably the correct move, but it makes me SAD!
Peace Woody. I’m glad we’re moving on, but always loved his heart (especially after Game 2 of regular season – nothing to apologize for imo).
His deal is going to make my teeth sweat. Happy it’s not on NJ’s books! Godspeed, get that bag.
