[Open looks on quick lateral plays are tough for any goaltender, but Hellebuyck especially lacks the footspeed to beat passes while remaining on his feet, and it costs him.](https://twitter.com/GregBalloch/status/1668677596354342914)
This was brought up in the most recent episode of the PDOcast as well.
I’m not paying for a $10 million goalie until we have the kind of defense they can actually make him look like he’s worth $10 million. The goalies that we’ve had have struggled because there’s not a team in front of them, not because they are .894 goalies. On the team to complete defense they’re all probably .909 or better.
Isn’t this the same issue with John Gibson?
How about the fact that the Knights just won the cup with a random guy they traded a 4th round pick for. It’s kind of ironic how everyone wants us to make a huge trade for a goalie after watching how random goalie performance is in the playoffs.
This team needs better defense, period. Defense gets better, goaltending improves. We love to shit on our goalies but look at what Vegas just did. Our forwards also need to develop a better two way game(looking at you, Tage Thompson). Even the best goalies couldn’t help us out of our glaring defensive errors.
We’re going to need to be defensively better no matter what. I don’t think this means that Helle is only on the level of UPL or Comrie.
We should be looking at top 4 d even if it means trading for one because we were terrible last year in the back
