Interesting is the right word, Byram and Newhook are the only two that will definitely be offered contracts from that group, a few others are maybes, but it wouldn’t be shocking if none are brought back apart from those two.

I’m expecting the team to look pretty different up front next season.

Edit: I didn’t realize Malgin was an RFA, he’ll probably get a QO

Malgin and Byram are the 2 you need to resign in my opinion.

As for the others, itll be price vs whats available.

Ps, i feel like im the only one that is not really a fan of newhook and cannot see him being a success story

I say we keep Byram, EJ and JT. Eller too if the price is right. I like Roddy, but he really only seems to fit with Jimothy Timothy’s line. Newhook could use more development.

    Prioritize Bo.

IMO resign EJ, Newy, and Eller if they take a team friendly deal. The rest can retire/walk.

Would like to see Bo, E-Rod, and JT stay on. Malgin too if price is right. EJ, JJ, and Cogs may just call it quits anyway but if they don’t I imagine the team would make an effort to keep them. We took a chance on Eller and he ended up being pretty worthless. That’s fine, won’t miss him. But Newhook was a major disappointment and I can’t see him staying. Helm and Nieto were decent this season but nothing to write home about. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

    My opinion:

    Byram a priority.
    Then Compher.
    Then Malgin
    Then Erod
    Then Eller
    Then Cogs

I know I’ll get downvotes but it’s my opinion

Gonna be tough to see so many people go, but there is also a ton of opportunity to be much stronger next year

Obviously Byram is a priority. EROd has enough flashes and potential to keep around. I’d give Newhook a little more time to see if he can get over the developmental hump.

The rest though? Might be an unpopular opinion, but Compher has been the most overrated “vet” on this team for a while, and I recall seeing a few different statistical breakdowns that reflect a rather poor overall contribution relative to expectation this year.

We have no idea if or how well Cogs will rehab from his neck injury.

    Eller can go.

(e)Johnson is worth bringing back on a one-year if he’ll take the minimum, otherwise it’s not worth it and we all know he’s close to retirement.

    (j) Johnson is a feel-good story and was an experienced depth piece, but he’s not a star and isn’t going to be one. I think you can find better talent in his range.

We all like LBNMN, but he’s just not that much of a contributor. Again, there’s better talent to be had.

Helm and Malgin I have mixed feelings about.

  9. I agree with everyone’s “must signs” but I just really want to see cogs back, the man is a machine and is always someone I can find on the ice because he never quit

I agree on Newhook & Byram getting offers. After that all bets are off. We need to get some fresh blood in the lineup. Cogliano & Helm are past their primes by far. EJ could come back for a reduced salary. Eller was very underwhelming. I’m no cap genius but we could have lots of room for some big names.

The only way we should keep JT is if its for the same money. I love the guy, he’s been with us through it all, but he was zeroed out in the playoffs and to me thats the answer of “is he 2C capable”. The reality is someone (i’m looking at you, new york rangers) is going to give him a big fat bag (relative to his current bag size, of course)

Newhook shit the bed this season and I know a lot of people love him but going weeks without a single point is not NHL level. We all hope he turns the corner, I’d personally sign him back but not for shit tbh.

What are the chances Cogliano, Helm, and the Johnsons retire? I’d love to have Cogs back, but the whole neck injury must have put his career in question.

Compher and Byram might be the only two worth keeping.
