Bleacher Reports ideas for the Preds during Free Agency

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10069581-early-free-agency-predictions-for-every-nhl-team

Spoiler: They say we should go after a prime RFA.

It’s not the worst idea in the world. We have a lot of draft capital for the next 3 years and a decent amount of cap room. So it’s definitely possible.

I’d be interested to hear who everyone thinks would be a good target for the Preds. My top 5: Zegras, Caufield, DeBrincat, K’Andre Miller, & Terry.

Time Meier is an RFA, but his qualifying offer is $10 million. So he’s probably going to want around that in his new long term deal.

All of these guys are going to take around $10m for an offer sheet. It’s not just that you need to entice the player to sign the contract, you need to offer enough so that the other team doesn’t want to make the same offer.

I don’t think we’re in the right year to make a big offer sheet. To me you think about doing that when you’re maybe one or two years away from contending.

Play the young guys. Bleach Report blows

  3. I’m not sure I can think of much else we shouldn’t do more than blow draft picks on RFA’s besides give our current old players raises or something.

Its a super high-risk play, and honestly I’m not sure the reward would be worth it. Zegras honestly is the big target, but Anaheim likely would just match given they have more cap than we have plus we have to resign Glass and Carrier at a minimum. We also have a few others we could resign like Sherwood and others who are in the AHL.

Ultimately the only viable targets would be Caufield and Miller. Just given the cap space of MTL and NYR we could do it, but it would super expensive and just long-term I don’t know if it would be worth it.

Although the line of Caufield – Glass – Tomasino sounds fantastic.
