I know this is from a week ago, but I just had to make a video about this. Last week the Vegas Golden Knights traded away yet another 1st round prospect, this time in Zach Dean to the St. Louis Blues for Ivan Barbashev.

There is genuine concern for how VGK is willing to use their first round picks for other assets instead of keeping them, especially with the core starting to age past 30. You can’t really ignore what they were being traded for, which also tells an interesting story. Glass kinda got wedged out with the acquisitions of Stephenson and Roy, so unless they were going to cook him in the AHL longer there wasn’t really an opportunity for him to do much of anything. Brannstrom turned into Captain Mark Stone. A pick and Suzuki turned into Pacioretty for multiple runs which arguably weren’t that necessary.
I’m not saying spending is justified, but with the success VGK has had early on in its history, it oddly makes sense to consistently go all in, but at the same time it’s going to be way more interesting the longer it takes for VGK to raise its first cup.
If you get drafted by VGK, you should just expect to play for a different team at this point lol
