He’s their clear cut #1 defenseman (plays in all situations) currently playing in all situations. It will be interesting to see how he finishes the season. He’s not as strong physically and defensively as Seider was at this age.

D+3 season for Wallinder but I like his progress.

  3. It’s so awesome to see one of these swing for the fences picks pay off. With his absurd size/skating combo, it’s looking like he can at least be a bottom pairing guy. Possibly a lot more.

Get Edvinsson in the mix and this could be a very, very mobile group of defensemen top to bottom. And they’re all huge, too.

Dude was a possession monster going into the draft, we definitely need more guys like him. Him and Eddie on the left side might be a better combo than Seider Hronek on the right.

  5. As pointed out it’s his d+3 but I’ve watched around a dozen games this year. I would say his most improved area is reading the game when his opponent has the puck in his d zone. He is reading plays and shutting things down. When he was drafted and then first started out in the shl with rögle he was constantly getting lost in his d zone. That really doesn’t happen in the viewings I’ve had.

His skating has always been good and allows him to start breakouts with relative ease what’s new is his confidence level now allows him to have rushes where he’ll start behind his own net and carry the puck all the way into the offensive zone. He’s improved quite a bit at walking the blue line and while his shot is good but could be improved it has a knack for getting through traffic which is an important trait to have. As mentioned he’s playing every situation and playing big min. He’s 10th in points for all defensemen. He still needs to work on d zone coverage but it’s not terrible like it was when he was drafted. He’s added more physicality this year but don’t expect seider level physicality. Really excited for him in the future ,left side of defense looks really promising.

Damn, our D could be like one of the best in the league in a few years

  7. He looks very promising and looking forward to seeing him in GR. LD is super deep though and so many options to make the team they are set there. That will work itself out and they will for sure have 3-4 good/great options. More interested to see how they address the areas they need more talent in. The RD Johansson over there is supposed to be really good but he is a couple years out is what I heard. Seems like a lot with the Wings is noted as big upgrade but couple years out.

It’ll be super interesting to see if Wallinder signs his ELC this offseason, as that would mean he’s likely coming over to GR next year I would think.

I see him becoming a Jay Bouwmeester type defenceman. I don’t think he’ll put up as many points as he won’t need to be our main offensive guy like Bouwmeester was in Florida. Just a big, great skating, solid at both ends guy but not spectacular who can eat minutes and play with/against anyone
