The 2026-27 season is officially underway – but it’s clear, at least in the early part of the campaign, that nothing will come easy for this group. A frustrating, 0-5 start led to some difficult conversations inside the dressing room, but slowly, the tide began to shift.
It is, after all, a season of growth for these Flames, who are building for the future both on the ice and across the street, where their new home at Scotia Place is less than a year from opening its doors. Longtime vets like Ryan Strome are helping shape the culture for the team’s up-and-comers, with another new face – Jonathan Castagna – emerging as a compelling, early-season storyline.
We dig deep into both of those players’ lives, get the lowdown on the team’s future hockey home, and be a fly on the wall for some of the tough moments that defined the first few weeks of the season here in the Stampede City, as October rolls along and the Flames look to get their season back on the rails.
