It's the economy, less disposable income.
Discussion on attendance or tickets sales and comparing year over year or team to team is useless… the nhl is not transparent and teams are not transparent and its done on purpose. Last year it slipped on air the actual attendance to a florida game was just over 5k fans yet the game was a sellout and the team reports it as a 100% attendance. Florida probably has never had more than 15k in the building even on thier playoff runs. Over the last 5 or so years maybe more they give away tickets last second to make it look like its a sell out to gain more broadcast funds. The proof is in the pudding when florida generated some of the lowest gates sales while continuing to apparently sell out. And avg a whole 50$ a ticket while other clubs are in the 300's. Vegas was also begging for people to buy tickets last year and had near empty arenas for a few games. Most of the vegas games are no where near 100% attendance even though they are 100% sold. I don't think vegas does the same as florida but your reporting is convoluting the 2 things. Vegas rarely if ever fills the barn 100% regular season and by saying in the past the attendance was 100% and now the ticket sales are no longer sellouts is not the same thing. Your assuming the arenas was 100% attended on those sell outs because the tickets sold out, then assume the current games have less people in the barn because it wasn't a sellout which is possible but not necessarily true when some of your past sellouts only had 6k people in the barn. You as media people would do well to demand a fair account of actual butts in seats and actual ticket sales ( excluding ticket dumps last minute).
If player safety is not going to do anything about the hit in victor olofsson. You shouldn't do anything about a player coming off the bench.
