Paul Maurice Gives Update on Sasha Barkov, Brad Marchand Before Anaheim Ducks



Florida Panthers coach Paul Maurice speaks after practice on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, in Irvine, California, and gives an update on the injury status of Sasha Barkov and Brad Marchand.

The Panthers play the host Anaheim Ducks on Sunday night.

The Panthers (1-0-1) are coming off a 4-3 OT loss to the host San Jose Sharks on Thursday.

Florida lost captain Barkov to injury in the second period and placed him on LTIR on Saturday. Marchand has been out since last season and had surgery in August.

  1. What worries me is the fact that I did not see his knee get hit. It flexed on his own weight. Not good! I have a bad feeling, damn it! I think all hockey fans hate to see this, Barky is a true professional loved by all!

  2. Barkov is a huge loss if he doesn’t play this year but the Panthers can still compete for the Stanley Cup. They have so much depth and a great head coach.

  3. Unfortunate news. He worked so hard to get back to playing. I don't know why his left leg just seemed to go under. Maybe he is still favoring his right knee. Something doesn't seem right.

  4. This feels like he is out for the year. The fact is he had an MRI so he knows more than he is saying. They want a 2nd opinion but we have seen this before. Paul says all the things for the sake of the team but reality is still reality. They say they don’t know but they had an MRI so they know a whole lot more than nothing.
