UPL and powerplay STRUGGLE in Buffalo Sabres opening loss to Blue Jackets
The Buffalo Sabres open their season with a 6-3 loss in Columbus with five goals allowed by Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and an 0 for 5 start for the powerplay. The powerplay especially let the team down after Mathieu Olivier acted like an idiot and drew Zach Metsa, who he has 40 pound on, into a fight. Despite Olivier’s selfishness putting Columbus at a huge disadvantage with a 5-on-3, the Sabres couldn’t take advantage.
Plus, Konsta Helenius gets his season rolling with a goal, Louis Crevier struggles in his first appearance after a four year extension, and who starts now on Saturday between UPL and Colten Ellis? Fans seem to prefer Ellis after the first game.

Loving that hat
Watching that pp is a trigger for me. I can't do it anymore, it's so infuriating. 😂😂😂
When are we gonna get a real Goalie upl is terrible
had off offseason to address the glaring issues with this club. nope.
That Buffaslug hat is VERY appropriate.
Colombus goals: 1st is off 2 defensive mistakes from Crevier, he tries to glove a puck down in the Sabres end, fumbles it, gets blown by and his 2nd mistake is not covering Sillinger, but taking Powers man effectively rendering Sillinger a wide open trailer. 2nd goal is Knies in front of the net. That's maybe the most egregious goal let in by UPL on the night ala Newhook game 7 where a magic hole just seems to appear in UPLs body where he becomes permeable and the puck goes through. Goal 3 Fantilli deflects puck off Werenskis shot, UPL is totally screened, deflect placement is perfect on the far side. Goal 4 is another perfect deflection by Knies in front of the net up top off a shot from the point. Goal 5 is another deflection by Monohan, it's more visible but again the placement is picture perfect. I wouldn't stress too hard about this one, Colombus is a respectable team with very good goaltending, they were at home… with Tages crossbar and Quinn post hit in the 3rd this game could of been 5-5 headed to overtime. So maybe let's not project complete and utter doomsday over this game Sabres fanhood? How about a little composure and impulse control fam? This is still mostly the same team that won the division last year and was one goal from CF 👍 💯 🏒 ⚔️
UPL let a flop goal in, in the playoffs hes a complete bum, id run Ellis over him
Boycott betting
You picked a fine time to leave me Alex Tuch …… we are a team of softies afraid of the front of the net …..
Get well soon Zucker ! We need an Alpha!
UPL reminds me of Jake Allen in STL!! A goalie who despite not being starting material, kept getting chance after chance, to prove otherwise, until they finally come to the conclusion that he's not the answer. At some point for the betterment of the franchise, the plug needs to be pulled on the idea of UPL ever being a starter.
That was Quinn homie
Get rid of Appert, this is his 3rd year
No worries it’s only one with many many to go.
Good news, i put $5 on Sammy to score first goal of the game at +5500 odds..
Turned into $285 , so that was good
Joe that hat is ELITE!!! I love it Brody balljangle.
I could feel Zucker's absence as well – he was a big energy guy last year
UPL has a confidence problem . The playoffs were not kind to him last year and he is a fill in for Lyon until he is no longer injured . He let a couple go in last night that he shouldn't have . The sabres need to trade UPL .
Typical UPL
I think Ruff should have pulled UPL on the 3rd goal. They only had 8 shots in that period (may have been less against him with the 3rd goal) but he has to come out. The team deserve that reset to give them a chance to turn things around. Ruff never does that now when he used to his first time around. I do blame the D in atleast 2 goals. One with 2 D on one guy leaving the scorer wide open and in alone, and the second was a guy moved to the front of the goal and no one covered him.
But Olivier was hitting a guy wearing a helmet. Too bad Olivier did break his hand. Punching a helmet is stupid. The coaches should have laid into the team for letting it happen!
