  1. no and that's not the goal of this season. sharks still have a ton of young players that need experience, don't try to push them to be cup contenders when they clearly aren't ready. Stenburg is in his rookie season and it's gonna take time for him to be effective. Let's just shoot for the playoffs and even if that doesn't happen just look forward to next season.

  2. As a Sharks fan, the short answer is no. But they in any normal injury year should make the playoffs, their division is weak, they came close and all their youth is seasoning, added vet depth and size.

This year they play out the usual early in the rise season a young contender goes through, where they "learn lessons" in their playoff loss. Then after this season it's anything is possible, although it will still be early in the process, some time in the 2-7 years from now range the Sharks have no reason to not be a perennial contender and win it all. It's not often a team rebuilds in such a way they get THIS MANY super high picks all in a row, and other high picks. Simply to get not just the #1 overall, but so much more key the Sharks got the #1 overall THE year Macklin was their OBVIOUS choice. And Smith was fairly obvious, and Misa was surely obvious, and Stenberg is arguably right there with the guy picked ahead of him….no teams have been THIS stacked and not at least become something somewhat special.

So then why i'm so confident not so much in this next season for the Sharks to be Stanley Cup Contenders, it's more soon after than and then the next….oh decade or so, and that's realistic, usually not, but Macklin isn't only great on the ice, he's MORE THAN reasonable off and on the ice, all about team and sacrifice and work…which makes others rise to that level out of respect, and all this builds something special…..and draws FA's later in the process, etc.

Mack already took less than he could have squeezed out of the situation. And the Sharks beyond him are loaded. And if the D and G start pitching in even just SOME, then with the F group and the depth of it and youth of it…..if Mike G plays his cards right and knows when to hold them and when to fold them at the right time to better balance the squad through trade…..or the D and Gs work out internally…it's all still open, which is why us Sharks fans are SO PSYCHED.

I don't want to bleat out some typical homerific drivel, but there is ZERO REASON the Sharks shouldn't win their first CUP with Macklin at some point here, just not quite this coming season (although i won't rule out the Sharks rising faster than we thought already, just not that fast, not quite yet even if they out do their projections.)
