As a Wings fan, can we just skip this one?
I think so much rests on if Larkin and the wings can make amends or gets traded. If it's a lingering issue all year I can see Detroit finishing as a lottery team.
As a Wings fan i think a lot of us had a "come back to earth" moment over the last lil bit here lol, if we're not 32 outta 32 ill be a lil surprised.

I don't think there's enough evidence that Chris Ilitch is REALLY the problem yet. I'm not a delusional fan, and I'm willing to admit they're the worst run organization in the league, but I don't think they are. I think they're going to be a wildcard team again to everyone's suprise, but more of the mushy middle BS. If Toronto didn't win the lottery then they'd still be the laughing stock of the division, even with the circus Red Wings
Them thinking that Yakemchuk is the Sens top pair RD makes me… nervous that their prediction is going to be as detached from reality as previous years. It's Sanderson-Zub, Chabot-Spence, Kleven-Matinpalo. Yakemchuk very likely isn't playing, and Ben Hutton, who they signed on a PTO, is Zub's replacement if he misses any games.
The Wings finished 10 games over 500 they are in the East now and it is tougher than the West. If they were still in the West they would have made the playoffs its not like they were 10 games under 500. I do think they need to trade Larkin hopefully for someone that can replace him as far as skill.

Detroit will underperform as long as the IllitchPlan of stacking the team with American born players stays in effect. Look at Detroit's drafting, free agent signings, and trades over Yzerman's tenure. Detroit has the most American born players on their team and they drafted 17 of 60 (28%)US players which is twice the league average. 12 Americans via free agency and 7 via trade. Do you think this was Yzerman's plan or Illitch? This is twice as many US born players than Yzerman went after in Tampa so it is easy to see Yzerman got screwed by Illitch and forced the team to be US based.
You won't get any smoke for calling out Chris Ilitch. The fans are waking up to the realization that the problem likely hasn't been Larkin or Yzerman, but Ilitch.
Man these guys talk about the Atlantic like how fans of SEC teams talk about the SEC
Detroit is in such a weird spot. They are a decent team and would probably have a decent chance of making the playoffs if they were in any other division. The problem is they are in the Atlantic and they would have to be better then at least 3 teams to make the playoffs. That’s going to be hard for them to do unless some teams fall apart like last year
