DK’s Daily Shot of Penguins: Why anoint Arturs Silovs?

1. As many incredible saves he makes, there are just as many awful ones. I dont trust him.

2. He gives up huge rebounds and lets in long shots.

5. Ya…. I don’t get it either why he is there ether… especially because sid is limited with time and they should have a goalie thst can take them to the cup 🇨🇦🇨🇦

6. Silovs needs to know how to make the basic fundamentals saves like blue line shots or rebounds, yeah you can make some really good saves here and there, but if you continue to let in the easy shots, you’re not a good goaltender, had to be said.

7. Silovs as the starter is almost laughable. Dubas should be trying like hell for Hellebuyck

8. People forget how bad he was all of last season because of 3 playoff games . He couldn’t win a shootout and he went 1-10 from the end of October to the end of December

9. Did you actually think Muse would say, “Well, Arty is a below average goaltender. We have no confidence in him, but I have no choice but to play him. My GM signed him to be the number one goaltender, at least to start the season”????

   I mean Muse played Skinner over Silovs last season, not that Skinner earned anything. So his actions indicate he’s not as bought in as his words.

   This will just need to play itself out. This is the hand the GM has given his head coach. But if Murashov outplays Silovs, I am confident Muse will make Murashov at least the 1A. Why? Because he did that with both Jarry and Skinner just last season.

10. Entire team looked like trash, Silovs is the tip of the iceberg.

11. Both Baby Pens goalies are better. Long range shots either ne needs glasses or to go. How long are we going to pretend Tommy Novak is a NHL 2nd line center ? Can anybody tell me what qualities he has that suggest he is a 2nd line center ?

12. murashov n blomqvist are excellent goalies and both are better than shilovs even right now

13. If it was the playoffs I would agreed with what Muse said but regular season this guy has been consistently bad

14. The Sergei Murashov future is now. Silovs, like Blomqvist, just isn't that good. Murashov is quick, he's tenacious, and he's a fighter in the net. Sergei is only going to get better with NHL experience, as well.

19. No need to overreact, might have ran out of gas but he wasn't great for most of the season, only to be saved by those couple playoff games. Call the Jets immediately

20. I said it all of June, why would/did we not try to sign Stu for a two year deal and let him mentor Murashov, we could have unloaded Silovs. Stu was the better of the two. Or if not Stu, some veteran, young goalies do better with a mentor.

21. Let's also not anoint Murashov and Blomqvist on the merit of 'not being Silovs'; that's the Jarry fallacy. All three goalies come with significant strengths and weaknesses. I don't see why Silovs should automatically be one of your top two guys (even though there are 2.8 million reasons for it), but the organization does.

22. Not many people out there talking about how bad Malkin looked out there last night. Almost every time he touched the puck it was ending with him turning it over to the Wings. Malkin was single handedly killing the Penguins power play.

23. J1Q: Has there or is there anything in Malkin's contracts that assure him a PP1 spot? I know it's preseason, I know he also produces a good deal on the PP. However, for the past 4-5yrs when he has to do anything that resembles Dman stuff, the usual outcome is a short handed opportunity for the other team. I believe the Pens have been in a great position since last year to have a "two-headed monster" PP1/PP2. We def have the forward depth for it and it'd be nice to utilize when we're home and have the last change. Great coverage as always from you and Taylor!
