Devil of a Season Ahead for New Jersey

It’s tough when trying to predict how a season for the Devils will go considering how inconsistent they tend to be from one year to the next. #njd #nhl

  1. Gotta say, it has always felt to me like the talk and stories about Quinn have always come from outside of the fanbase. We all know he is free to come in a few years, and that this team should be good, as-is. We were much more focused on almost everything else last year. It seems like they avoided a bunch of mistakes, including overpaying for Quinn, and including shipping out Dougie to keep Nemo. Pleased that neither of those happened. Things are looking pretty Sunny these days in Jersey!

  2. Absolutely right on with your opinion of the Devils team in this post. I am a N.J. Devils fan and feel we get some bad press on many occasions. I do think we need a better coach.

  3. The roster forwards doesn't wow you, but it's well built to roll 4 lines pretty evenly TOI wise with the additions of Evangelista, Mantha, Rodrigues, and Boqvist. That should work to their benefit – they all have great defensive metrics, and having fresher players helps with the offense. If they use the right system, and stay relatively healthy, I can see NJD having a big improvement over last year. I like what Sunny is doing, but we'll see how the results pan out.

  4. NJ is so "mid". When I watched the Philly video yesterday, that was another. They could make the playoffs… or not. I do not expect greatness, nor a team that will crater.

  5. Meier-Hischier-Evangelista,
    Bratt-Hughes-Mantha,
    Gritsyuk-Rodrigues-Mercer,
    Boqvist-Glass-Brown.

(Noesen, Bjugstad possibly traded — too many waiver eligible forwards. Then you have Hameenaho, Lombardi, Melovsky etc. as young depth.)

  6. this team could realistically have 10 of their 12 forwards hit 40+ points… as a devils fan i’m reluctantly optimistic, but i will say this is def the best the forward depth has looked in my time watching the team. just hoping they don’t have a psychological breakdown again

  7. Curious to see how this depth chart unfolds but great coverage on the team. For the record, we are being severly underrated and we dont need quinn hughes. Id prefer if he wasnt on the team for monetary and locker room purposes.

  8. I'm so over the Hughes. Would I like Quinn? Yup. Do I care anymore? No. I'd rather see Jack learn how to stay healthy and actually show up when it counts instead of in meaningless international tournaments. The most important player on the roster is Hischier. Nico plays his best every shift. He leads by example. Hopefully the new additions can bring something to this team to help them out.

  9. The only big move I think the Devils should make is trading for Hellebuyck. Quinn or the other big names out there don't do enough for their price tags, but Helle and Allen would be an amazing combo in net.

  10. The assumed Line up for the Devils has been rather interesting.

    Most suggestion a line-up of
    Meier – Hischier – Evangelista
    Bratt – Hughes – Mantha
    Gritsyuk – Erod – Mercer
    Boqist – Glass – Brown

4 very strong, very good lines that all have at least something good about them. Allows for the devils to not be stuck in their zone and actually allows for depth scoring to occur outside of Jack going nuclear for a stretch.

The defense and goaltending might be meh, but this season honestly comes down to Luke and his development. Can he be that Number 1 Defenseman.
