Detroit Red Wings face uncertainty as their GM search heats up and prospects fall short of elite status. Can a brand rich in history sustain hope when youth ranks lack star power?nnScott Bentley breaks down Detroit’s ongoing front office drama and the implications of having 17 national TV games despite low expectations for the season. Analyzing Scott Wheeler’s rankings for players age 23 and under, Scott Bentley highlights concerns about the Red Wings’ pipeline—with Axel Sandin-Pellikka and Trey Augustine among the few young names with upside, but none projected as franchise-changing talent. Key topics include contract updates on Simon Edvinsson, the impact of Detroit’s lack of high-ceiling draft picks, internal vs. external GM candidates, and what the future holds if top prospects don’t hit their ceilings. Can the Red Wings avoid another lost season, or is a major rebuild looming?

There aren't any elite prospects except maybe Augustine.
"The Sharks started their rebuild later and are already ahead." And yet fans can't figure out why Larkin requested a trade.
Detroit won't make .500 this year.
Who would want to be the Wings GM? Look what happened with Yzerman! Iilich didn't let Steve Yzerman to run or build the team the way he did with Tampa ! Steve should have never been fired! Give the man a free reign to build the team with quality Free agents! And through the draft! Yes there has been mistakes in our picks. But We also got Gems that hopefully will build up thier game play to quality NHL status!
National broadcast games are the worst. I don't subscribe to ESPN so that's nearly a quarter of a season that I'll miss. It's retarded.
Looks like Brian was more locked- on having a fun holiday weekend while Scotty mans the fort like a hard working warrior. You can’t get good help these days.
Personally I'm a little more positive than this take, Scotty. We're all frustrated by the lack of progress on the management front, for sure. Sooner or later that's going to get resolved (yes, it's outrageous to have drifted along like this), and then they're taking to the ice. Anything can happen, and aside from Larkin this team is essentially the same roster as last year, and lots of reasons to anticipate improvement. It's true there are no superstars in the wings, but it's not really reasonable to focus on that.
The fact that the Wings will be on 17 nationally televised games only proves the NHL is, in reality, a soap opera.
