  1. huge avs fan. They are the best at playing their way in the league. The problem is when you take away their speed, or free ice they dont know how to adjust and that comes top down from bednar to nate, marty etc. If they face a defensive team like CAR, FLA, even Dallas, they keep trying to force the puck in cleanly through a very clogged neutral zone and they dont have the strength/ grinding down mentality to force pucks into the house which is why they couldnt score vs vegas.

They have too much ego to play like florida or carolina26 where they chip the puck in and forecheck and then force the other team to make a mistake. Meanwhile other real contenders play real conservative and force colorado to make mistakes Instead of forcing every d zone exit a goal scoring opportunity.

It sucks bc the roster they have, lekh, nate, nelson, val (before they let him go…) could played that grinding down dog on a bone mentality that we see has become so well mastered by florida. That is the new meta way to win tough games and colorado are still trying to be an offensive juggernaut which doesnt work in the playoffs vs true contenders.

  2. It would be fun to see a video about teams Stanley Cup expectations (realistic expectations) versus results since the salary cap era. Talking about the teams that are expected to win the cup not just make the playoffs. Example for last season was Buffalo making the playoffs versus Carolina winning the cup. Going into the season, the expectation for Carolina was to win the cup. They were one of the handful of teams that the expectation for the season was cup or bust.

  3. The power play is still the biggest issue – 27th in the league last year. Cost them in โ€˜25 vs Dallas and was part of their downfall last year.

For everyone blindly saying Makarโ€™s deal will handicap them, itโ€™ll account for 18% of their cap when it kicks in, then less as the years go by. And he was the last big piece to get signed. Everyone else is under contract for multiple years except Lehkonen and Wedgewood. They have room to keep Lehky and Wedgie will be replaced.

  4. I agree with the pundits on what the Avs need to do this season. We have to make the cup finals or I think Bedsy might be done here. And as others have mentioned, SOMETHING has to be done about the power play.

  5. People may laugh at this, but I predict the Avs don't make the playoffs. If they don't, they will be following the trend the last 2 years of the team that wins the President's Trophy failing to make the playoffs the next season, so my prediction isn't unheard of. The Avs rely on Landeskog far too much and he's often injured. I also am not really sold on Blackburn and Wedgewood in net either. The Golden Knights exposed how to beat the Avalanche in the playoffs, by controlling possession in their own zone and clogging the high danger slot, and the rest of the league took note. Sorry, but I think people are too gung ho on the avs. I wouldn't be shocked if Colorado gets under 70 points and is a lottery team.

  6. I still want a b2b but I'll take at least one more cup to feel satisfied with this current window… I still hate hearing them get big ups all season only to quickly deflate in the post season. Gotta get it done!

Also I have stated that I will get a Burns jersey if they win the cup with him since he's been one of my favorite players forever

Also also, I'm all behind Bedsy, but sometimes a change of personnel is just what's needed. I think the organization will know when it's best to move on.

  7. Kadri having a full season with the AVS I think will make a difference. The chemistry wasn't where I expected it to be after we picked him up. Let's get hellybuck in net. I'd be alright with that

  8. I don't want to hear any boo-hooing from any teams that have gone less than 20 years without a cup. And if it is less than ten, kick their owner right in the box. Yeah, you heard me right. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Anyway, if a US team is going to win it, I'd rather see it be Colorado than some of the others. I was concerned last year with their roaring start that they would become "regular-season warriors" only, and sure enough that's what happened. It is very difficult to sustain a monster-level of performance for a whole year and playoffs, and I agree, it is better to hit your peak late in the year than early. (Plus let's face it, statistically speaking your team is more likely to be affected by injuries to key players as the season goes on than at the beginning.)
Yes, Colorado could contend again, but like a lot of teams who won the prez but didn;t make it to the cup final, the question is what happens the following year in terms of either getting worse and losing the magic, or getting better but maybe using their experience to get wiser (or just hot 100% performance later).

  9. Nichushkin iss a headcase, but on the ice he is a big, fast, two way player who was an SOB as a net front presence. I think they miss him big time this season. Talented 6'4" 210lbs. wingers don't grow on trees and he made a lot of Avs look really good. I think they start fast and wilt.

  10. No. They're a team on the decline that depend heavily on the talents of two players, one of which is grossly overpaid. They'll get destroyed in the playoffs again this year, I'm almost certain of it.

  11. It sure would be nice if the rest of the teams could just suck so it's a less stressful season. But seriously, it should be fun, I can't wait for everything to get moving.
