Would ANY Team Take Jonathan Huberdeau’s Contract?? | FN Barn Burner

Boomer, Pinder and Rhett get into a conversation about Jonathan Huberdeau and whether the Calgary Flames could ever realistically trade his contract. Huberdeau still carries a massive $10.5 million cap hit through the 2030-31 season, so is there actually a team out there that would be willing to take that deal on? The guys discuss what it would take to make a trade work, whether Calgary would have to retain significant salary or take another bad contract back, and if the rising NHL salary cap could eventually make Huberdeau easier to move. Is there actually a path to a Jonathan Huberdeau trade, or is he going to be a Calgary Flame for the rest of this contract?

  1. I said it from day one. The way Treliving structured this contract is that we are stuck with Huberdeau until he retires. All you can do is hope for the best. Even if you ate half his money for the remaining term of his contract, I don't think teams would take a chance on a $5.25 million 33-plus player with a questionable hip and very little bite to his game.

  2. Gould's article suggested maybe if he had two really good seasons, like 70+ points. Which is a waste of an article. Have him do that, and get back to us. Kadra as 3 left at $7M and playing well. Huberdeau, if he scores 60 points, could be moved for 50% retention with Calgary adding a first round pick or two. Remember, getting 60 points getting premium ice time ad PP time is what the bottom feeders first line players do.

  3. Does the fan-base not want to finish really low so can draft as high as possible ? If so, why trade JH ? Whatever C ans winger he plays with would makeup to top offensive line, no ? If so, they'd use up the opponents top checking line, and spare ( as much as possible ) young players from the toughest matchups. Put JH in the most difficult on-ice matchup situations, like, why not ? It mite be a significant ( non-stat ) contribution to the team. It's the least JH could do for the team, imo, but it'd take BigBalls to do that role, and I dunno if that JH could or would do that.

  4. Somebody has to be the worst contract in the league. It’s not even a contest in the NHL. The extension makes that trade legendarily awful.
    Maybe expansion saves them…

  5. Just stop talking about Hubey. Just effing stop. This contract is not as much a burden. Just lets see where he is at. He might be better. FFS, just enough already. He had double hip surgery. Lets just see. This pointless whining is idiotic.

Also, maybe get someone who can bloody SHOOT. Jesus. My god.

  6. Are we forgetting Huby was actually pretty good in 2024/2025 playing with Kadri & a few other good players. 28 goals for a playmaker, solid on the PK & in front of the net. His 10 power play goals was a huge thing I noticed that year. It was great for his confidence & he’s always done really well on the power play. 🙏 he doesn’t become another Nicklas Backstrom tragedy.

  7. Barnburner has nothing better to talk about than Huberdeau's contract? Lay off the guy for a change. It's not like any of the other contracts the Flames have are producing points or playing as superstars.

  8. Personally, I'd rather have EP40's contract than Huberdeau's. The racism stuff aside, one guy is well into his 30s and at that point, you are what you are and probably on the decline. At least if the Canucks get EP40 some decent line mates and get him right mentally, he can still be a productive player. Probably not a 90-100 point player, but maybe a 70-80 point player. At his age, his 62 point season 2 years ago is probably going to be Jonathan's best with Calgary. He was a great player for a few years in Florida playing on a top scoring line. He's not that guy anymore and I don't know that that's a mental issue. Once you hit 30, you don't know when that drop off is coming, but it's coming, especially if you're changing teams and playing potentially with lesser line mates. Huberdeau is also a winger, so he probably needed an elite centre anyway. No elite centre + approaching his mid 30s = probably a rough contract. I'm not saying EP40 is a bargain either. His contract is very bad. But at least with Pettersson, he's significantly younger and if you find the right coach and line mates for him, who knows?

  9. Diodn't you guys just whine about this a few weeks ago or so stop we will never get rid of that contract Hubs stop playing once his contract kicked in . He want the Flames to buy him out get 5 mil a yr pls new contract from another team and all of a sudden he is producing again.
