Are the Capitals Set to Have a Strong Season?

1. No matter what happens, the Caps will not make it past the second round.

2. My first full season as a Caps fans so I hope they get far!

11. I feel the same as I did a couple seasons ago when Nashville made all those big moves in the off-season.

12. Last time Ovie scored 30 goals he came back with 44 in 67 even with the broken leg. If he scores 40 this year that leaves 31. Ya never know.

I'll say two things about the Capitals: a) they should've made the playoffs last year, but they underperformed hard and even still only missed because Philly and Pittsburgh had loser points, and b) why do people keep forgetting that Ovechkin had 44 goals in 65 games 24-25, he led the league in goals before he got injured, missed 17 games and still finished top 3 in goal scoring, 6th in even strength goals and 2nd in goals per 60 (out of players with more than two 5v5 goals). Oh and one more thing: Capitals are possibly the only team in the league who can challenge Florida physically.

    Do not sleep on the GOAT, he has made so many people look like absolute drooling morons in the past for thinking he can't do it any more. You might end up being the next one to look like an idiot if you write him off.

18. My mom and I are going to the home opener in Washington vs Pittsburg, excited to see Ovie and Crosby play each other again live. Maybe I’m optimistic because I’m a fan but I think the caps are going to be pretty good this year.

22. Just having a competent Power Play coach is going to be a major improvement. Not enough people are talking about it but getting rid of Carlson on the Power Play and adding a competent coach is going to get them more points. Also, don't discount Tuch and Kyrou on the shootout. Washington left points on the board last year because they couldn't score in the shootout. They only missed the playoffs by 3 points. A few shootout goals and a few power play goals literally changes their season. They wouldn't have been sellers at the deadline and that would have put them in.

    All kidding aside, this team is gross on paper.

26. Technically happened before the end of the season but I think you at least need to MENTION the loss of John Carlson when you speculate on the team moving forward.

27. The top 3 on defense are fine, but, Liljergren is not comforting in the top 4. Otherwise it's a good team on paper.

28. It'll be tough to deal w/ the Canes in the Metro but if they make the playoffs and get past them, I think they have an outside chance of winning another cup

    If that were to happen, I think Ovi retires after that but I also wouldn't be shocked if he's gonna keep going until he gets 1k goals (although he already has that if you include the playoffs)

29. Such a high-quality roster from top to bottom, lots of rookies poised for breakout seasons and veterans. It's going to be fun watching them this season

32. 2 years ago I wasn't a believer in their roster only the coach, but last year I was still like they're better than this. I think this year will be in between but let by younger guys rather than Ovi

33. I can't remember the last time Washington went into full "My team is on the floor" mode, in August.

    It's always seemed to be, something or other could be a problem for the Caps this season if something goes wrong, and of course, Murphy's Law would take care of the rest.

    Hard not to like what we're seeing here, but it's a long way to April.

39. With Logan Thompson in the net I could see Washington making the playoffs but not the division. Just think what if the VGK would have signed LT and cut Hill hmmmm we may have 2 Stanley Cup’s and Hart looking good but I know he will be even better this year for the Golden Knights. 45. Love Wilson too… Maybe the most boring team with Ovi at this point goals for the captain etc. Islanders and them… I have hard pull but Ovetch has to get goals so they are to miss playoffs.Isles… You build aged crap, this is what you look at.
