Detroit Red Wings Steve Yzerman WAS RIGHT not Trading for Quinn Hughes?!

Even though the Detroit Red Wings moved on from Steve Yzerman it seems that he made the CORRECT decision in NOT trading for Quinn Hughes as Minnesota is having a tough time resigning the star defensmen. Do you believe Steve Yzerman still should’ve traded for Quinn Hughes even if he didn’t resign with the Detroit Red Wings?

  1. They still weren’t getting close to a cup even with Hughes!! Yzerman was right! You don’t have to look any further than the Tigers to know what the problem is. I feel sorry for the next GM.

  2. Yzerman was so far ahead of people on Quinn, they couldn't even see him. Y'all finally catching up long after Yzerman walked away.

Hate that comment if you want; the truth is the truth. Yzerman read the situation and handled it the only way a legitimate GM that thinks more than 5 minutes into the future would handle it.

  3. Funny how this is painfully obvious…Q Hughes wants to play with his brothers in NJ and Yzerman knew it from the start when Hughes turned down any contract extension with Detroit…Guerin went ahead with the trade and will now find out that he just got a 'rental' for 1.5 seasons.

  4. Bob Duff doesn't know what's going on, guys. His agent told the Swedish press that he's not negotiating with an interim GM. Agents know who to talk to. Fans don't know who agents are talking to.

  5. Devils are my team but I always respected tf outta Detroit growing up in the '90s. Can't believe Yzerman is out but good they're takin their time to replace him now, it needs to be a homerun.

  6. So far I haven't seen where Yzerman made many mistakes other than taking the GM job when nepo baby Ilitch was the owner. He opted out of the Hughes trade because he knew it was a rental, and after Ilitch vetoed the Stamkos and Mantha trades Yzerman knew it was time to GTFO of Detroit. Probably the biggest mistake was choosing Larkin as the base to build around.

  7. youre wrong about hughes. hughes is not waiting for larkin. hughes isnt re signing with the wild because he wants to go play with his brothers in jersey. yzerman knew this.

  8. All about the money, when the great mike ilitch died. His family don't care about winning, losing, Detroit, the players and the fans. I wish woodwardsports asks the GMs of all our teams why can't we keep our top players? Bring in top 10 players in their positions? like Signing big time names in their prime! and not has been and cheap players.

  9. I would expect nothing less from slappy central than more excuses for Yzerman. Even if Hughes doesnt re-sign with Minny, that doesnt mean he wouldnt have re-signed here. Remember, he said he liked being in Minnesota because it was close to Michigan. You know what team is closer to Michigan?
Thinking Illitch wouldnt pay is also misguided and honestly is an insanely lazy, moronic take. He has allowed the Tigers to spend a lot and the Wings have spent right up to the cap multiple times. If you traded for him and had Larkin here, I would be willing to bet the Wings would have had no problem signing him and then they dont have Larkin demanding a trade.
In this era of hockey, you have to have good geography or good tax rates to attract top end free agents. Because of that, you have to take a swing for a superstar when you have the chance, even if it is a risk. Keep playing cowardly and we'll keep missing the playoffs. Seems like a lot of fans are content just being close to the playoffs which is pathetic.

  10. Chris Illitch is a cheap bastard compared to his dad who was more than willing to dish out the money people are finally seeing the problem wasn’t in the gm spot it’s in the owner spot

  11. who cares he still couldn't make any moves. Who gets to keep a job for 6 years and do nothing!? good riddance. larkin top 40 in nhl??? I feel so much better I gave up on the nhl 2 years ago. I would rather watch the wnba for more action.

  12. YZERMAN SHOULD'VE TAKEN QUINN. Go to playoffs. Then leave. Teach ungrateful owner and some whiney fans a lesson. Because of Yzerman–we didn't get ripped off by Quinn.
