Gorton and Hughes got lucky because their best players were willing to sign. You can't force a player to sign. Carlsson turned down 8×10.5 a year ago because he and his agent knew offer sheets were coming.
If Leterneau learns to play a 200ft game, I think we should expect a Joel Otto, Keith Primeau , Brian Boyle type at least. Those are good hockey players and maybe he could be a bit more. We shall see.
Not to be over dramatic or pessimistic but if Hagens isn't our eventual top line center we have a long road back to contention. Letourneau, nice leap last year but was still more a great piece than a cornerstone. Minten doesn't seem to have that level upside. And Poitras, if he even makes the team, is already ticketed for the 4th line.
Yep Joe and Mick…
Just keep letting Don Sweeney & the Bruins development organization for their horrible drafting & development results off the hook forever
The 2018-2023 drafts by Don Sweeney were beyond putrid
32 draft picks from 2018-2023 & here's what Don Sweeney yielded from those 6 drafts & 32 picks
Jacob Lauko:4th line turd that Sweeney threw away twice. Now plays in Europe
John Beecher: 4th line turd. Placed on waivers
Mason Lohrei: A 25 year old defensively challenged player who was being benched in the post season for turds like Peeke, Jokiharju & Harris
Matt Poitras: A small, weak poor skating, bad on draws player who isn't a naturally gifted goal scorer. Got banished to the AHL for the past year and half where he hasn't scored much despite playing top line minutes and in every situation. Remains unsigned
That's it
32 draft picks across six drafts from 2018-2023 & Don Sweeney's haul?
Two 4th line turds who are no longer woth Boston, a 3rd pair d-man that stinks at playing defense that they benched for other 3rd pair turds vs BUF in the playoffs & an AHLer without an NHL contract presently
Let's just keep blaming the drafted players for 11 years of largely terrible drafting and developing results
God forbid we actually put the blame on the GM Don Sweeney & the Bruins organization for obviously poor drafting & developing for far too long
And more bad news Bruins fans…
Once you get past Hagans, Leterneau & Zellers it's a few B tier prospects with unknown NHL timelines
Than it's nothing but Don Sweeney's gaggle of 3rd-7th round forwards & or d-men rotting away in his largely still terrible Farm System
And before any of you get too excited about any of Don Sweeney's current 3rd-7th round forwards & or d-men…
Don Sweeney has drafted 46 3rd-7th, round forwards or d-men since 2015 across 11 drafts
The NHL games played leader at Forward of the 46?
4th line throwaway Jacob Lauko
The NHL games played leader at Defense of the 46?
One game by 5th rounder Frederic Brunet, ONE NHL game!!!
A successful NHL draft pick's lowest barometer of success is playing 100 NHL games
Don Sweeney has drafted 30, 3rd-7th round forwards
1 has played 100 NHL games (Lauko)
1 for 30 or 3%
Don Sweeney has drafted 16, 3rd-7th round dmen
1 of the 16 has played an NHL shift (Frederic Brunet & his ONE NHL game)
0-16 ZERO PERCENT
So again, Don Sweeney has made 46, 3rd-7th round forward or d-men draft picks since 2015 across 11 drafts
He's 1 for 46 or a 2.17% hit rate on 3rd-7th round drafted forwards or d-men playing 100 NHL games
2.17%
The only win of the 46 if you can call him that, again, Jacob frigging Lauko
Like I said, I wouldn't get too excited about any of Don Sweeney's current 3rd-7th round forward or d-men draft picks
Why?
I kind of just went over all of that
But if you somehow already forgot, only 2% of the 3rd-7th round forwards or or d-men Don Sweeney drafts turn out to be real NHLers & his ONE real NHLer was Jacob Lauko, a 4th line throwaway Sweeney threw away twice who now plays in Europe
That's the lone win
#terrible
It's been 11 years. A pattern has long since been established with that pattern being Don Sweeney & the Bruins are not very good at drafting & developing & once you get into rounds 3-7, don't expect anything at forward and or defense
And before anyone disputes this…
These aren't opinions
It's just me posting Don Sweeney's crappy overall drafting & development results
Nothing more
Nothing less
So if you want to cry about these crap results, call Don Sweeney
He's responsible, I'm just the messenger
