2026-27 St. Louis Blues Season Preview

The Blues are a sleeper in the West, in my opinion anyway.

  1. I’m glad you pointed out the lack of a strong point man on the power play. But I am optimistic about the team’s future. Also are you ever going to do a GM career video on Doug Armstrong?

  2. They're one of those teams if their centers work out they could be very hard to beat. But that means you're asking for Thomas to have a healthy season, McTavish to bounce back to be a 50-60 point guy, and Dvorsky to finally take a step to s how he can be a legit NHL center. That's a lot of "ifs" that you need to fall in line with one of the hardest position to play.

  3. The thing that sucks as a Blues fan is that they are so middling and at the end of the year they make a late push with some young talent, and the front office uses it to justify making splash moves and instead try to add to the team with similar talent, hoping it works out. Armstrong was trying to catch that lightning in a bottle of 2019 since that season and it just hasn't panned out.

  4. Absolutly love love love that jersey you have. Beautiful blue the shield is perfect. And the stripping and even the lil detail of the strings set it off . Wish I was a blues fan. Lol

  5. One thing worth nothing about my beloved Blues: last year, pretty much everyone on the team underperformed at a ridiculous level until about February. Everyone. Forwards, defense, goaltending, it was a hodgepodge of injuries or massive underachieving or both. I wish it had lasted a few more months so we could have gotten a better draft pick, but I think the Blues we saw in the last two months of the season are much closer to what the team actually is at baseline. Stats and probability would indicate that there has to be some degree of bounce back this year for several of those guys, and I think that plus the off-season improvements mean you're going to see a Blues team that's gonna surprise a lot of people this year. Not saying they're going on a deep run, but I will be disappointed if they don't make the playoffs. Not surprised, necessarily, but disappointed. They absolutely have the pieces to be competitive, especially with the young guys continuing to mature.

  6. All the pieces are in place, now they have to grow their game together. And have a better start to the season unlike the last few seasons where they're playing catch-up all year.

  7. I think one player who is going very under the radar is Jiricek. He was very noticeable for the Thunderbirds in the playoffs, and if he was on the L side rather than R, I’d put him as a lock for opening night. They may just want to give him more PP time in Springfield, because it looks like he plans to play the point on PP2 at a minimum in STL.

For the goaltending, my only wish is that they could get the Swedish goalies in NA. Both Hofer and Binner’s contracts are up after this season, so there will be at least on opening. We don’t have a solution in Springfield.

I also think the more balanced schedule will help the Blues this season. They were doomed last year with the poor start, and there just wasn’t the time for a reset / coaching to get them to the right way of playing until the Olympic break.

  8. If they have a good start to the season, they should make the playoffs. Monty (for the first time) got to pick his own assistant coaches. They have the talent to be a top team in the west, it will all depend on the defense and goaltending.

  9. This team is not going to surprise anyone. Look at the roster. Just look at it. Their best player, Robert Thomas, is a 2nd line center in most contending teams. Not every single team is going to be a positive surprise or a black horse contender, because seven players happen have breakout seasons simultaneously.

  10. Blues are an interesting team right now. They don’t have the big names but they’ve got quite a few sneaky good guys and numerous prospects with solid potential. I think they are on the right track.

But they may or may not be quite there right now. I’ve got them as a playoff bubble team that has the potential to surprise people. Competing in a tough division will make it difficult. They will need guys to play to their potential and some things to go their way. But look out in a few years.

  11. Many people underestimate what the Blues have in the pipeline and I think that’ll really show in 3+ years with the development of Carbonneau, Jiricek, Lawrence, Mailloux, Dvorsky, Snuggerud, and others. Blues have hit so well in their draft classes the last 15 years and it’s always underrated. They won a Cup in 2019 without having 3+ guys all drafted in the top 10 like many of these other teams have like the Avs, dynasty Hawks, Tampa etc. I think the Avs had 6 top 16 draft picks before their Cup meanwhile Blues only had 1.

    From 2009 and on:
    Avs had 1st ovr, 2nd ovr, 3rd ovr, 2 4th ovrs, 2 10th ovrs, 11th ovr, and a 16th ovr.

    Blues since 2006:
    1st ovr, 4th ovr, 10th ovr, 11th ovr (this year lol), 14th ovr, 2 16th ovrs.
That’s it. 1st ovr erik johnson ruined his career with an injury too

Yet Avs and Blues are still tied in Cups during that span…
difference of a real team and a tanking team for a decade, I would f’ing hope Avs would win a cup with all that!
And yet Avs still had to run Binnington to beat them in 2022😂😂😂

  12. Blues fan here. Great assessment. I think the Blues make the playoffs. Mctavish will help the PP with his shot and net front play. Blues missed Bolducs shot last year on the PP. Really excited for the depth in the forward group. Also hoping Mailloux takes a leap forward. Hopefully buyers at the deadline!
