Who Will Be the Next Bruins Captain? Pastrnak vs. McAvoy
If you asked Bruins fans who should be the Captain of the Boston Bruins, you would hear a lot of the same answers but no concise answer. I have heard David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy, and a lot of Nikita Zadorov. Those three names seem to be the ones at the top of everyone’s list.
According to the Bruins front office, though, it seems to be between only two players. Those players are Charlie McAvoy and David Pastrnak.
In this video, I’m going to give you, the audience all the reasons why both of them would be a good captain, breaking down what the have done for the Boston Bruins over their career’s who they have learned from about being a Captain, the leadership qualities they have, and finally who I think is going to be announced as the next captain of the Boston Bruins.

Who do you think should be the captain?
I also give the edge to Pasta over Charlie. Zadorov can't captain from the box.
I think it's gotta be Pastrnak. I won't be upset either way, but I just want to make sure he wants to stay in Boston for the foreseeable future if we miss the playoffs or make another first round exit over the next couple seasons.
Don't want to give him the C and have him turn around and ask for a trade in 2 years.
I thought Mac for a long time but this last year I think it might be pasta he felt like he stepped up more than the party kid he was not too long ago
Pasta makes the most sense, he shows up more in the playoffs, and vocal.
I love Pasta for C he is our superstar and has grown into the role.
Pasta fo sho
I don’t have time right now to watch this video. But from the top of my head I’d say Pastrnak.
You forgot my boy Bradly. But I think Pasta how shown the fire that it will take be captain. But just like Chara and Bergy, Pasta and CMac will do the same.
Thanks for the amazing video.
chuck also constantly whines to the officials. which tough it up chuck.
I'm good with either or both. Take the playoff slash as a learning experience/turning point. Both could use the opportunity as a spring board into the role, rise to the occasion. Give Zadorov the A 😅
Just based on how many games played in a season, Pasta is the right choice. We'll have a captain on the ice 'most of the time' as opposed to a captain that ends up on injured reserve EVERY season. Zadorov? you can't have a captain who spends more time in the penalty box than any other player in the league.
The answer is… nobody. During the 1968/1969-1972/1973 seasons the Bruins did not have a captain even though those teams had Orr, Esposito, Cashman, Bucyk and they won two Stanley Cups during that time.
I'd say Pasta for sure. Heck he's been in that roll since they traded Marchy. It's the natural next step. Thanks for another great video.
Captain Pasta needs to happen
Pasta is the best player but Mac has got the grit. He played when his entire face was broken. He’s got the heart and that’s what I like. Thats culture! Give him the C!
I would be fine with any of the three. But I’d also wanna confirm that if you are not good for a couple more years. The guy would still wanna play here. I wouldn’t want another captain for just one or two season
Co-captains, Pasta and McAvoy. Just like Middleton and Bourque in the 80's.
I'm OK with either, neither or both. Bruins have gone over a year without an official captain, and I don't know that it's hurt them any. Being the captain is more of a prestige thing. If one or more guys are fulfilling the role, it doesn't really matter if they have the C or not.
Zadorov worked his way into the conversation when Charlie was hurt. It was Pasta and Z that typically fielded the media questions and both did a good job. There's a couple knocks against him. First, and it's a small one, is that he hasn't been here as long as the other two. Second, he's taken way too many stupid penalties; he has made progress in this area, so look to see him get even better. I know it's tough with his large size.
If I had to choose it would be Pasta.
If you follow the Bruins closely, then you know Pasta is 100% the correct choice
You're overthinking it if you say anyone other than DP.
A couple of years ago I thought McAvoy would be best but now I believe Pastrnak would be the best choice.
The games that I went to down in Florida this year. I saw how pissed off pasta was when his team was losing, especially against the Panthers. He slammed the bench door a few times and I could hear how angry he was that they weren’t playing to the Boston Bruins standard and I did not hear that from McAvoy. McAvoy did return to that game but was pretty quiet on the bench
If seeing McAvoy's jacked up face/jaw/mouth while he powered through the season last year doesn't scream Captain, I don't know what does. Don't forget he also wore the A for team USA at the olympics. Sure, the Head Coach just happened to be his Father in-law. But to take a team full of the best players in the country and have him be one of the leaders has to show that there is something there.
Pasta also deserves it, but just let him worry about being the superstar and driving the offense.
I also don't hate throwing Zado into the conversation, but he's just not at the level that the other two are. There definitely was times last year that he showed leadership qualities though..
Personally, I always lean towards a top defenseman being the captain over a forward. Unless it's not even a close call, i.e. Bergeron. They get more ice time usually by far, giving them a bigger role and more chances to really dictate the play of the game. So to me, that's the tie breaker that makes me think Charlie should get it.
Id do co captains .but if I gotta pick pasta .no legitimate NHL center pasta is still arguably 1 winger in league kucherov an last 2 years carried team even changed his game to help team .
I had thought it would be McAvoy when we traded Marchy, but over the last year I think Pasta has taken the top spot. You can see his passion and desire to bring the team to a higher standard both on and off the ice. He sounds like a captain when he interviews and in all of the Behind the B segments he’s in. We are in a good spot where either way I don’t think we will have a bad captain, but I do think Pasta will be the better choice for Boston.
McAvoy can be a diva sometimes. Pasta definitely
Pasta no question
Hot take: Pasta as C, mcavoy as A, and our second A is my hot take: remove the A from hampus and try zadorov as the second A instead. If I recall when hampus was hurt he and Elias had A’s on their jerseys.
Charlie is great especially last year. But its Pasta has to be.
