Quinn Hughes Turns His Head on Every Punch Turn. You Don’t.

Quinn Hughes Turns His Head on Every Punch Turn. You Don’t.

There are two types of players. One of them has already made the play before the pressure arrives, and the other one is a half second late every single time. It isn’t hands and it isn’t top speed. It comes down to one small head mechanic on the punch turn that Quinn Hughes does automatically without ever thinking about it, which is exactly why nobody has ever taught it to you.

I didn’t learn this until I started skating with NHL players and asked them straight out how they make plays so fast. Watch the full breakdown to see the mechanic frame by frame and how to train it so it becomes automatic for you too.

  1. You continually make me a better player and a better coach. Massively appreciate what you do and glad to subscribe.

When players are continually looking at the puck instead of taking mental note of where their stick and blade is, which they can feel, and not their surroundings, they’re practically playing handicapped. The key is to know where the puck is based on your stick, and trusting that your movements are putting it where you intended to, and then pay attention to where everyone else is. You can intuit then where to go and where players and opponents will be.
