How to Fix: New York Rangers

Just two years removed from winning the Presidents’ Trophy as the best team in the NHL, the underachieving New York Rangers have missed the playoffs the past two seasons, even with building blocks Igor Shesterkin, Mika Zibanejad and Adam Fox in place. Mark Lazerus welcomes Peter Baugh and Vince Mercogliano to discuss the Rangers’ offseason, including drafting Albert Smits fifth overall, trading Vincent Trochek and acquiring Pavel Dorofeyev and Joonas Korpisalo, as New York looks to return to the playoffs and avoid sending another “letter” to their long-suffering fans.

  1. You guys are REALLY overrating Trocheck. He's a good second liner on the wrong side of 30. A second pairing D-man, a middle 6 center prospect who was a first round pick, and a 3rd round pick is absolutely a good haul for a good second line center who is over 30. Your obsession with this being a bad trade is kind of insane.

  2. When the host begins the telecast with a jab at the team's Cup futility, you know you're about to get a fair and balanced analysis 😅 …. its so obvious The Pathetic hates the Rangers. What a joke

  3. Is it not obvious that the team has immovable contracts in their top two centers, Fox and Igor in their primes, and that is why they are in this in between mode. Drury has earned something this summer that he did not have before it; my respect. Let's see where it goes.

  4. Keep in mind the Rangers powerplay was ranked poorly throughout the season, with Fox missing a good chunk of December and January. If anyone saw this team’s power play in January without Fox, it’s a miracle he was able to help this team finish 5th by season’s end. Dan Quinn should be thanking Adam Fox everyday for his continued employment with the Rangers.

  5. I love Troch, but the guy was never a 1C…. ever. He topped out as a 2C, so someone explain to me why the Rangers should have gotten a 1C prospect, a first, and an NHL player? It's insane to me when you think about it. They got a second pair d-man (but, I know Peter he's just "okay"), a beast of a center prospect that should be a 3C and a third round pick for a 33 year old with a 10 team NTC when the world knew Drury had to trade him (he did not hire Brisson to wait until the winter to move his wife and kids) and these guys are complaining.

  6. Thinking Werenski is established as a top 3 d-man in the league is recency bias. Fox is still top 3, he just has a vision of the ice that no-one other than Makar has and his style of play will age far better than Quinn's will.
As long as Fox can stay healthy, he'll be a primary reason why the Rangers are in the wild card race.
