Your (mourning Skubal) Detroit Red Wings podcast tackles the Alex DeBrincat contract situation as the Dylan Larkin fallout continues. Hockeytown news & analysis breaks down the GM search timeline, the ideal front office structure, and the contracts waiting on the desk of whoever replaces Steve Yzerman.
(00:00) – Intro
A rough stretch for Detroit sports as Tigers fans mourn the loss of Tarik Skubal.
(04:45) – DeBrincat Contract Situation
Alex DeBrincat has one year left on his deal and the Red Wings have almost zero leverage. What a fair extension looks like in an exploding goal-scorer market, whether a mega-deal is stomachable, and if the captaincy should be on the table.
(24:10) – GM Search Timeline
Why the hire needs to happen before September, with Simon Edvinsson’s contract sitting unsigned and monumental decisions stacking up for the new regime.
(36:20) – Front Office Structure
President of Hockey Ops vs. a lone-voice GM: why the roster shakeup era demands collaboration, filling out competencies, and hiring an elite recruiter over a one-man show.
(48:00) – Around the NHL
Macklin Celebrini’s five-year, $18.8 million AAV deal in San Jose and what shorter superstar contracts mean for the cap era. Plus, why Quinn Hughes still isn’t extended in Minnesota and how it circles back to Detroit.
(58:35) – Overtime
Patron questions on Moritz Seider’s Norris chances, 20-goal targets for the young forwards, and the risk of a soft reset built around Lucas Raymond.

Great refresh pull
As far as asset management it would be good to move Cat to a contender at the deadline without an extension and he comes back. He gets a chance for a cup this year and the Wings can build a better team for the future with the return and a better draft pick. This is assuming they’re not in playoff contention. If he wants to sign now then you just sign him.
Why would DeBrincat care one bit what Larkin does? He's not a child. He's a grown man who as far as we know is happy here and has expressed no opinoon on Larkin jumping ship.
"12." "Done."
DeBrincat at 96 mil,,,(12 mil/8yr) seems like a good number. He's probably worth more now than 12 mil/yr. But when he's 34 thru 36 he won;t be scoring 40 goals a year. Thus a 96 mill contract will balance out. Pay him, but not the captain.. That's mo's job.
With the contracts that have been given out lately and what he brings every night and wants to be here i would be ok with 13.5
Okay. Make it 13 mil per year. For Gosh sake. Pay him.
Once that salary went to 19m for a player, Yzerman had to retire LOL
Edvidsson should sign a bridge contract – 5 years at 9 mil. If he stays healthy, his subsequent contract will be a lot more. But, he has to prove he can stay healthy.
Dylan Larkin is officially the WORST Red Wings captain of all time.. 5 years ago, I would have never thought I would end up a bigger Patrick Kane fan than a Dylan Larkin fan . Crazy times.
How do you know that Ilitch is even looking for a GM? He’ll take the easy way out and name Horcoff the new GM. Kris Draper will be the assistant GM and will run the draft rounds 2-7.
no and no
I think the realest statement is "there's no one to spend the money on" the league is much different than it used to be. We have fun coupons but little to spend it on.
Trade Cat to the Hawks, the Wings can get a great return as Hawks will finish low and therefore a great pick,, keep the $$ for the kids like a D Man who will be asking for some cash,, look for youth ,, the Wings are going nowhere FAST so start filling the future with picks and youth.. The future if done correctly starts now,, 3 or 5 years before a real contender so build properly !!!
