Rust is definitely a player who gets better with age, a remembered player who has earned himself as a legend in this team. Honestly I would think rust wouldn’t get traded, he would rather end up becoming a free agent at some point instead, and a team would pick him up if they have lack of 2nd and 3rd line depth. When we talk about prospects, like Ville Koivunen, You can tell he’s already build character of himself such as his signature move he uses a lot in AHL games. It just takes time to build certain players, which is probably why rust has constructed himself as a great 1st liner in the league at his age due to development at Notre Dame.
So sick of you wanting to trade away our best players. For what? More good players to do what with? Trade away I guess. Good grief.
Can't wait for hockey season because the pirates are wearing on me.

Historically, players start falling off after their age 34 season.

Not opposed to trading Rust, but hopefully if Dubas does trade him he actually gets something back for him unlike how he gave up Guentzel for nothing.
I just want to say in defense of guys like Koivunen and McGroarty, Guntzel and Rust didn’t make their NHL debuts until they were 22. Rust specifically, came up and bounced back to the AHL a couple times too. Koivunen and McGroarty are 23 and 22 respectively. They both debuted earlier in the league and there’s still time, for them to get a foothold on the NHL roster. This season will depend on injuries and trades but they’ve both shown they are better than just AHL players with their production and how they handled themselves during the Calder Cup playoffs. Now they need to work for the next step.

Thank you DK. Solving one problem and creating more problems is not ideal. I understand what your saying DK and I agree. The younger plays have shown promise in the AHL, Murashov for example has shown he can compete at the NHL level. At least to some degree. This is what needs to happen, sooner than later. Great show DK.
After listening to this episode, my question is where was the Pens development staff last summer? Why should the player bare the responsibility for this alone? The development staff should have been monitoring him and he should never have been in the game if he didn’t complete the development to their satisfaction.
I can't believe Rusty is 34 either 😢 Time flys. He can play until he's 38-39. Solid player!
