13. The Devils have been paying the toll for being such a dominant team from the early 90s until 2012
    Not sure if they ever get a goalie even remotely close to Brodeur again

14. Season before last, they were tough in the playoffs against Carolina even without Jack. I thought for sure they'd be 2nd or 3rd in the Metro last season.

15. Good overview. If we can get some good goaltending and a new coach that can motivate the team, the Devils will be in the hunt for the Stanley Cup.

17. I think Mehta is gonna take new jersey to the next level. Maybe a cup in a couple of years but i definitely believe we'll make the playoffs and hopefully caroline do us a favour and lose early so we can get by to the 2R or CF this time. Praise the Sunny!

Im probably way off and im sorry if i offend any NJD fans, but as an outside observer and a fan or another team, the Devils looks to me … to be a team fully aware that they are middle of the pack, a team that is just enjoying the show, playing their games and taking their paychecks … like the Kraken.

    Players are not unaware of who are what, or which teams have chances and which do not … all around the league, in fact, they and their agents are among the most aware by far, despite what certain fans and specialists thinks. Guys who joined the Coyotes or the Panthers back in the days, knew perfectly well they were just going in those teams for a paycheck.

    The Devils were a different beast under Brodeur, Stevens, Gomez, Gionta, Parise, Langenbrunner, Rafalski, Elias and company … they knew that they had a shot at a cup every season under that system and with Brodeur in net.

    Looking up their past cup teams, it was trippy to see how many ex-Canadiens players and staff were on the 94-95 team, Richer, Lemieux, Lemaire, Robinson … but i digress.

    Something has to be done to wake that group up, maybe losing Markstrom and Nemec might be enough, it’s not like the Metro was impregnable and impossibly out of reach.

21. The Devils have never been the same since Martin Brodeur.

22. Gonna be a Hart caliber year from Jack coming off a healthy summer and a gold medal. If Luke can take the next step (especially with the motivation of looking at Jack and Quinns gold all summer) then the Devils will steamroll the Metro this year. Will be looking forward to seeing if Mantha can find chemistry with Hughes and Bratt or if Grits has a big summer and earns that spot.

    Can't wait to see Silayev in camp this year and while he'll most likely need some seasoning in the AHL/time to adjust to North American ice, he does already have 187 career KHL games (+19 playoff games) under his belt.

23. i know he's not a fan, but waiting for him to do an avalanche edition always sucks because he doesnt ever care to do it in the first 20 teams. i alwayd get exited about a new series he starts and then have to wait two months to see a single video about the aves. rlly sucks thg

24. see when you make a deal with the devil to win all those cups, play boring hockey for decades, almost kill the sport, there sure will be hell to pay. In the end though, the NHL changed rules to get rid of the trap, the most boring version of the trap. 1 cup = 10 years of suffering, so 30 years total before they can win again.

27. Names on paper may look good, but like you mentioned, it's all about how the team gels. All day every day, I'll take the less skilled team on paper that all buy in and play hard for each other over an all star team

29. For a luck video (using NJ as ex.) You could do injuries in general, who specifically gets injured like NJ had Jack & Hamilton injured following the Franchise Best Reg. Season Record they tied & at the time that was NJs #1 Fwd + #1 D then this season Pesce & Jack hurt again #1 Fwd + #1 DFM.
    Consider how odd/unlucky the injuries are like Jack gettinf finger at dinner or Luke dislocating his shoulder while skating 100% untouched.

    Locker room could be another category like OTT I'd say haf bad luck to have their Capt. have a podcast seeming to hint he may not stay or back to NJ the Pres. of VAN nearly gets a tampering fine saying Quinn won't extend as he wants to go to NJ w/his brothers & then the Devils lockerroom gets messed up knowing Quinn wants to go there but NJ couldn't get him at that time while Nemec + Hamilton feel like getting Quinn replaces 1 of them. Dougie was even asked to waive his NTC which I also feel like goes with inside news/rumors leaking out being bad luck.
    Dougie happened to know his Team wanted to trade him & followed up by massively underperforming likely not purely coincidental.

31. If Luke Hughes' last name was Smith or something, he'd be making a lot less and no one would talk about him.

32. The Devils never should have got Schneider. Not because he was not great. He just deserved better. He played so incredibly well for the Devils, that I think, a lot of people over look just how good he was cause of how bad the team was. If he played for even a middle of the pack team, he could have dragged a team to the finals. Absolutely amazing and under appreciated goalie. As a Devils fan, it was so wonderful to watch him play and painful knowing we were wasting his talent and his career.

33. The Devils hit hard times because they deviated from the formula that had been so successful. Build a big, tough and intimidating team that rolls 4 lines, plays stifling D, and has elite goaltending. Tampa and Florida stole that formula and has won 4 cups between them. Meanwhile, we have built a team of soft smurfs that can’t win in the playoffs.
