I do think they are headed in the right direction. We got some size this draft next year we’ll get some skill. Thx from Lynden WA
what is Manny's main objective this year?
Well, ofcourse compared to last year, I really can’t see us being worse than that.between all the injuries, never really even finding out which linemates gel with each other, the not knowing who is going to stick around, jealousy of wages, egos, micro managing . Yeah I think they are heading in the right direction. But you gotta let them cook a bit.
Aren't the Canucks fans notoriously known to run its best player out of town? Let's try that for EP40
The Canadiens aren't even a great example, as they haven't won anything significant, and it's def. not certain that they will. Everyone's praising the Demidov deal, but yeah, he didn't look all that great in the playoffs, and looks severely over-hyped for being a playmaking 2nd line winger. Meanwhile guys like Caufield can score all sorts of regular season goals, but vanish in the playoffs. Just saying, they're not exactly and assured dynasty.
The Canucks however, don't have much at all at the moment, so it's hard to gauge how it's going.
All the defense has been promoted. Zeev and Willander are sortof 2nd pairing elements, but will need money pretty soon, and help that's better than them if the Canucks want to contend. How is that help arriving if they don't draft defense? They haven't drafted any since Willander? This past draft was a prime opportunity to pick up some D, but none came. So right away, this looks like the Achilles heel for whatever comes about from their rebuild.
There are mid-tier forwards in the system. An excess amount. But these elements are often churned and don't get high returns from the churn.
There is goaltending in the system, and the Canucks do pretty well with goaltending at least. Not exactly managing their contracts or keeping them healthy, but they do pick them up and develop them.
Their biggest asset is now Caleb. But he's what? A #1b, tops? There just needs to be more, so yeah, it'll take time. If they don't address the D, then it will be a rebuild to nothing.
