THG at 10: Talking About the Sharks

2. When I was a baby my father took me to a sharks game in a tiny sharkie onesie. It was only until the past year that I really got into hockey, and more than anything I feel really grateful to have another thing to bond with my father with.
   Here’s hoping with this uptrend for the sharks I’ll get to see them lift a Stanley cup with my father after so many years of waiting – the future is teal!

3. If the sharks make the playoffs think Celebrini will get at least 12 pts in the first two rounds 😊

4. Thinking a couple more years before the Sharks get into the playoffs. Reason: The Sharks won last year when they were FIRING on all cylinders. The second thing the coaches have to do is stop the "protect the lead" with 15 minutes to go. They lost so many games doing that. They pulled quite a few games out of their rear ends. To make the playoffs? We would have to say the kids can't play like deers in the headlights as they did last season. You could plainly see Misa was at about 60 percent the whole season. Tentative, hot potato puck. So much so, he made a comment wait till next season "you haven't seen nothing." Ivar Stenberg has to walk in like he's been there before. Not to many players can just walk into the NHL and dominate. Even Celebrini didn't do it till season two. When these kids do that (tentative) I get it, but it drags the line down. Plus the Sharks open the season and their schedule is playing teams they always have a tough time beating? Ducks, Edmonton etc…I like where they are going, but they will have top prove me wrong. Just saying patients on the playoffs.

5. Doug Wilson, Sr. refused to retool and kicked the can down the road for several seasons. Had the team drafted K. Miller instead of Ryan Merkley and traded E. Kane to keep Pavelski the drought isn't as long. Right away Grier said the dreaded "rebuild" word and went about restocking a depleted prospect pool.
   Sam Dickinson was drafted the same year as Celebrini with the #11 pick.

6. One draft pick I want to mention is Igor Chernyshov at 33rd in 2024. He’s already doing really well at the NHL level and potentially could be on the top line next season.

9. Everyone always starts at 0 points I do believe the Sharks will make the playoffs as well. Calgary and Vancouver are in rebuild mode, the Oilers and Kings look like they might slide, Seattle is a wild card in every sense no one really knows what to expect from them. So the odds are pretty good for the Sharks.

15. Predictions are often worthless, but mine is that the SJS will be a scary cup-contending team in 5 years.
    They have Celebrini, got some guy named Michael Misa (only 2nd overall, poor lad), and before that Will Smith. In the 2026 draft they somehow got Stenberg, Verhoff, Ryan Lin, and a kaiju named Karmanov. But beyond that they already have a pretty good supporting cast, a lot of big guys and character / energy guys.
    You know what people say about whether a team has "hard skill" or "soft skill" guys? They are building a team with a lot of "hard skill" guys – guys who can protect the likes of Celebrini and Stenberg, and also carry the load with high-impact offensive play on the other lines. You never know for certain, but I think optimally this team peaks in the next 4-6 years, and it is a very high peak. Celebrini will be in his prime, Stenberg likely also, and that's about the time needed for the new defensive prospects to come to full readiness and show whether they are really NHL quality. In the meantime, guys like Nurse, Kesselring, and Trouba are there on the blueline, and might still be there for a playoff run at the back end of their careers.

17. One guy who went unmentioned in the goalie section is Mackenzie Blackwood. Not a lot of wins for that guy but he grew into a fantastic goaltender for the sharks in his brief 2 season stint with us.

    Guy was great for the locker room and maintained a lot of mental toughness in spite of a lot of rough defensive zone plays in front of him.

19. Anything can happen but one would have to think their chances of making the playoffs is greater than last year. That d corps was really bad last year. While Trouba and Nurse are overpaid for what they bring at this point, they should be a marked improvement on what they had last year. Kesselring is a good add. And they should be stronger down the middle. Misa took big strides as a center in the last two months. Dare I say he appeared to be playing more of veteran center game. I'm most looking forward to seeing the year he puts together in this upcoming season. Dickinson should only get better. And the West is still expected to be pretty weak so it should add up to them having a good chance to make the second season.

    The 2016-17 Sharks that lost in rd 1 had massive injury issues. Couture could barely breath, Jumbo had torn knee ligaments — both played, neither was the player they've normally been.

    Igor Chernyshov probably ought to be on that draft list as he's already shown up in a meaningful way.

    Kind of amazing how many of the names on the 'top lists' were with the Sharks for only a few years.

    With the departures of Ferraro and Eklund, there's only 1 player in the entire Sharks org right now who remains from the Doug Wilson era … Ethan Cardwell. Barclay Goodrow was traded and returned. a few years later.

22. @6:12 when Celebrini got injured after his first game, Smith played a lot without him and he was terrible. Heeling the puck and looked lost a lot in defensive zone. I think he was putting too much pressure on himself. Now with Cele he’s a different player, even playing really solid 2-way hockey last year.

23. Sharks might be the best franchise not to win it all The rebuild is over and they are probably making the playoffs thie season and entering a Cup window in 2-3 seasons. Share with the Habs the honor of being the most entertaining teams to watch (now that the Ducks look to have a regressive season incoming).

24. I started watching THG around the time of Quinn getting fired, I thought THG was an insider and running misinformation for some reason.
