  1. Mickey Redmond is a treasure and I love tuning into Wings games to hear him on the call he makes me laugh. But I do truly hope for the best for Detroit this season and beyond. I'm a little scared of them pulling a 25-26 Canucks and just utterly collapsing which I truly hope doesn't happen.

  2. So frustrating. If Larkin doesn’t turn coat, Kane likely never leaves, now the team has only one center (Copp) and a bunch of misfits. Now there’s an incredible amount of uncertainty w Cat, and Seider and Raymond. This next season could be as bad as 19-20 and 20-21. If it continues who knows what happens. 😢

  3. Wings fan here, and I've gotta say, I'm actually less optimistic about this team now that Yzerman is out as GM. All of the best candidates have been already snapped up, and combined with the drama of Larkin wanting a trade, has made this offseason a steaming hot mess for us.

  4. Real letdown. Compiled stats and spit them out. AI could have done it. How about some insight into what went wrong? Out on a limb kind of stuff. 10 minutes and change, for what?

  5. Yzerman was too cautious at the end. He inherited an absolute mess of a team and laid some foundations, but his pro scouting was poor and he just couldn't bring himself to take a shot.

  6. It’s not looking good for us I’m afraid. Honestly hope we are last in the league this year. Trade Larkin, trade or keep cat idc. And pray we get a top 2 pick and snag up Alexis Joseph

  7. Whether Yzerman is gone or not, were going to be seeing his draft decisions for the next 12 years. I hope its one of those things (almost like buffalo) where all those GM changes didnt compare long term success-wise to the drafting that was done in those years. All we can say is we'll see. Hopefully a much more aggressive GM coming. Might get the best out of the kids.

  8. It is a fascinating mess that the next gm needs to figure out I think I'd start sending out scouts to try and spot some hidden gems people might be overlooking. As well as cycle through ones already in the AHL just to see what the wings have got, they need something that's going to light the fire under them. The only other option would be to tank for at least 1 or two more years to try and get higher draft picks that can provide the spark.

  9. No offense, but podcasters, fans, analysts on the Yzerman firing and wings in general are missing the glaring problem:
Copp ‘22 and Compher ‘23 signings to be 2C.

If you’re firing Stevie, the time to do it was July ‘23. Signs a career bottom 6C to be 2C after an outlier career yr in pts, then make the exact same massive failure 1 yr later. It was obvious then to anyone who understands how crucial it is to have 2 legit top 6C as the foundation of your forward core, the spine of the team. There were other options. Dylan Strome signed 1 day after Copp. This was a catastrophic failure of player evaluation. If you understand that, you understand that Larkin pulled the weight of being the only legit top 6C for nearly a decade. Center is exponentially harder than the wing, drives the line. Your team isn’t going anywhere with 1 legit top 6C. I don’t care how elite your wingers are.

*It’s an advantage to have a couple of your top 6 wingers also be natural centers. Zito in FL understands this. 5/6 of the top 6 were/are natural centers and Lusty on 3rd line with Lundell is a W/C.

  10. At this point I already want the preseason to be here so that I can see how everyone is going to play after dealing with such bad crap going on within the organization and also see how are they going to go about Larkin and the captaincy and also of course the GM job.

  11. Illitch has been in a coma since his Father Mike passed. Winning was everything to Mike. Not so much with Chris. They have not had a top tier GM in the 10 years you just went over. Maybe next time?

  12. Larkin is the cancer. No heart, No character, disappears every March. Unprofessional Captain trying to gaslight Stevie Y instead of talking with him like a grown man. He quit on his team while under contract.

  13. Detroit is probably my closest to rotting for among US teams. Used to be so amazing in the "Detroit Red Army" days, Yzerman, Lidstrom, & Hasek and all those amazing Russians, and one really had the feeling that the Red Wings were this amazing management team who could spot talent and put at team together at a level far above other teams. (Was it all just Scotty Bowman?) So to me, it is so dismaying to look at this record of the last 10 years and see that they have been in a malaise for so long.

  14. I can't bear to listen to Red Wings podcasts or discuss them on Reddit lately, but I'll listen to THG!

Rasmussen being on the list of top scorers really shows how few high impact players they've had.

  15. People can meme “Yzerplan” all they want but the hard truth of the matter is that no one was going to dig the Wings out of that hole they were in in any kind of short timeline. It was always going to be a very long project with a short leash and shorter patience as they had nothing but Larkin when Yzerman got there, and he’s turned out to be not the guy. The Wings are set up well with Raymond, Seider, and Edvinsson and a good crop of mid 6 forwards and mid pairing d-men along with Augustine in the pipeline, but they still lack the important thing: a true 1C that is more than capable to drag them to the postseason kicking and screaming if need be, and other than a top defenseman, like Seider, those players are the hardest guys to get in the NHL
