The Stars are like what the Canes were prior to this year – eternal contenders but just never able to get over the hump and win it all.
Playing in a division with three of the top five teams in the NHL (including themselves) certainly doesn't help, but I think that center group is a bit too old.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Robertson to see if they can get him to an extension come January 1 or what happens. Regardless they still have rantanen, Johnston, Hiskanen.. like there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be a top team in their division. Oettinger needs to start playing good in the playoffs also. I like the stars I do I cheer for them. They’re one of my favorite teams in the west. I’d like to see them to do good.
As of now I consider the Stars the most successful failures.

Still crazy to me how much Benn fell off shortly after signing that massive, long contract.
I think they missed their best chance in the early 2020’s. Maybe next year once they shed a lot of contracts and dump past their prime players they can reconstruct their roster better.

Dallas is definitely going to have a harder time reaching the cup than the last 4 or so years and this is definitely a weaker roster (losing Bourque definitely hurts and i'm convinced this will be a breakout year for him). That said, even if they're more lacking in depth than before, they still have some of the league's top talent. So long as the team stays relatively healthy (looking at you, Seguin and Hintz) and they figure out how to consistently play a full 60 they are still absolutely cup contenders.
You already know my opinion probably and if you remember just skip reading this. lol. Dallas is good enough as is to make the playoffs but won't get out of the second round with their right side d-core as it is. If Nill makes one or two trades for a number one and number two right side defenseman that are good (they don't have to be super stars just competent in their play in their own zone) then yes they could actually win the whole thing. It's important to get Miro back on his natural side so he's no longer slightly handcuffed and to have a complete d-core with all three pairs that don't make it easy for opposing teams to move the puck into the middle of the ice and pick apart Otter. Otter did play better last year verses the year prior but it's frustrating having to keep track of which goals were muffins and which ones were the skaters in front of him hanging him out to dry. DeSmith had a couple of starts where the skaters left him out to dry as well. Fix the right side d-core and all should be well, or at least well enough that it doesn't feel like a wasted season that we all had to go through in order to get more cap space for the 27-28 season.

It doesn't surprise me that Alexander Radulov was in the top ten. There was a season I can't remember which one but Dallas was playing flat and uninspired hockey late in the season and Radulov hat tricked the team back to life and into the playoffs.
