Flyers’ Michkov is Working HARD This Summer — Training With Panarin & What It Means for the Flyers
After a sophomore slump that included a playoff benching and conditioning concerns — Matvei Michkov is doing everything right this summer.
He’s been spotted training with Artemi Panarin, Mikhail Sergachev, Andrei Kuzmenko, and a loaded group of NHL stars under trainer Dmitry Yashankin. He’s been skating at Molot’s arena in Perm with full locker room access.
The Flyers also sent a strength and conditioning coach he trusts directly to Russia for three weeks to monitor his progress.
This is a completely different Michkov than the one who showed up to camp underprepared last year. And heading into the final year of his entry-level contract — it’s exactly what the Flyers needed to see.
Today we break down the full picture — the training details, what went wrong last season, why this summer is the most important of his career, and what a bounce-back Michkov means for the Flyers’ Stanley Cup chances.

Be very curious how next year goes for him
Dude Is A CLOWN 🤡
Michkov threw himself under the bus.
Tocchet just told the truth..
When Mich saw Marty he realized how fragile the lineup card, and jobs can be. You go from being the buzz of the town year 1, to seeing the next great prospect in the organization come up and get the same welcome; that's gotta get a player motivated. Not to mention the playoffs etc. He's so young! Learning the langue, etc. WIth that commitment to be better, he will also mature! The organization is on the up, and up. My prediction is 84 points for year 3!
Are you guys branding to Flyers Central?
Michkov has one of the highest IQs in the NHL. The problem with IQ being your biggest strength is that you need to make sure your body can keep up with your mind.
Michkov will figure it out. His talent is unquestionable. And if he actually does put it all together, he can become the best player on a STACKED young team.
Ben Simmons is there, too.
33 and 33 66 points I’ll take it and @8 million 4 years write it down
Michkov 40 goals 69 assists – 109 points !!!
It's a crime Matvei has a Head Coach who kills his creativity. Only good thing, Michkov will be in the Flyers Organization long after Tocchets fired.
Another great video and breakdown. Keep it up brother Loving your content.
As competitive as he is and the bag he just saw Leo, Bedard & his fellow countrymen Demidiv get, trust me when I say of nothing else will motivate him, that certainly will given how competitive he is!!! I guarantee we will be clamoring for the team to re-up him by the All-Star break bc most certainly he will be offer-sheeted next offseason!!!
michkov is gonna have an insane next year
The narrative that he was off last year is overstated. Outta shape maybe, but still had 51 points. If any of his lackluster linemates could’ve finished 50% of their golden opportunities but flubbed instead there is an easy 10 more points. Glad he is taking summer seriously though!!
At first, the next season was going to be his first season with the team. We never thought he would be over so fast. Moving from country to country at such a young age was impressive. How many of you have moved, state to state? Just finding that routine/ way of life. With the proper guidance he will become an absolute Beast in the NHL world.
So partying in Dubai and getting into car crashes last year wasn't 'offseason training'. Who knew, rookie mistake.
So this off season Michkov had to have a babysitter. hmmmm.
They just want to see if he actually work hard – if not trade coming
My only problem with Michkov is his speed any kind of improvement would be amazing cause he’s just below it being a problem and slowing his line down. He can’t play with Tippett
They should call Mark Howe to work with him.
Sophomore slump is the highest points tippet ever put up. Insane we really think if he doesn't "bounce back" the flyers might not resign him. If McKinnon's first few years were here, y'all be calling for his head.
I have been critical of MM39. His basic skating posture/stride length is a concern. His lack of discipline in leading the team in PIMs is a point of concern. Finally, his unforced turnovers have to be reduced. Until there is improvement in these areas he will struggle against top tier playoff teams. Fans that blame it on Tocchett are kidding themselves, he has to earn Top-6 & PP1 time. He failed to do that last year. He played his best games at the end of the season on the 3rd line, with Cates.
The Flyers brass is proving to be thoughtful, professional and classy. They seem to be building a family type atmosphere where "winning" is the top priority and the players seem like they've bought in 100%. I'm thinking that there are exciting times ahead and for the first time in a long time I trust the management team. I love the way they're not only coaching up Michkov but nurturing him and giving him resources to improve without weighing him down with pressure and expectations. The dude's still young but I think this year he takes a humongous step toward being a pro.
I'm picturing Mich in a Rocky IV style training montage that merges Drago's 80's tech with Rocky lugging logs through the snow, set to a Night Ranger or Kenny Logins soundtrack
