San Jose Sharks set the stage for a blue line transformation as Michael Kesselring emerges as a potential breakout value on defense. After a challenging season with the Buffalo Sabres, Kesselring arrives in San Jose determined to prove himself, bringing size, defensive skill, and a chip on his shoulder—can he become the cornerstone in a revamped Sharks defensive core?
Host JD Young breaks down Kesselring’s contract, fit alongside veterans like Jacob Trouba and Darnell Nurse, and examines whether the 26-year-old can reclaim his two-way form seen with Utah. The discussion explores Kesselring’s analytics, projected top-four role, and opportunities on the penalty kill. Several points are raised, including the Sharks’ offseason moves, who should pair with Kesselring, and how his success could guide the next wave of San Jose’s defensive prospects. Will Kesselring prove to be the best value acquisition of the offseason and anchor the Sharks’ blue line through their rebuild?

From his interview, it sounds like he really wants to have a bounce back year. It sounds encouraging, and I hope he gets back to that level again
Kesselring is one of a few players that will determine where this team is headed. A player with substantial upside. Pohlkamp is another. If they exceed expectations and Askarov is respectable, this team is going to get over 100pts and make the playoffs with room to spare.
Love when you cover the player's stats. Kesselring said he had San Jose circled for a while, so I'm really rooting for him to have a rebound year
The trade to get Kesselring was a great move, unfortunately every other D-man trade/signing after the draft was shite.
