When Kane and Toews each signed their long term deals each accounted for 15% of the cap at the time. Bedard contract is 14.7% of the cap so its all relative. As far as this being good for both sides the Hawks are probably good with 15 and Bedard happy with 5 yrs instead of 8 yrs.
On thec17th he became a man. On the 18th he became THE man. Now its time to prove it
You can’t have a no movement clause until you are RFA aged.
Lot of whining on salary and cap hits. Byram cap hit in 2 years will be 10%. Seabrook and Keith deals were 10% at the time. All the young defenseman that will be signed aren't going to be monster contracts 4-6M a yr. Those are 5% cap hits. Yes, they all add up but its just the new era. In 2011 the cap was 64m, in 2016 it went to 71.3m. In 2027 it will be 114m. Teams will have to adjust and finally some teams will have issues signing upcoming free agents and more trades will take place. Having all this rising cap for the past few years organizations are signing their players mid year avoiding FA. That's going to change.
Only on a Kyle Davidson team can you have these 2 things:
1. a player, and I quote KD "He (Bedard) makes the players around him better" gets $15m/ yr with a career plus minus of -98, and arguable part of the worst teams in team history.
2. a "generational talent" only makes 17% more than Bowen Byram
I love Bedard and dont mind Byram but when you look at this logically it's mind boggling
Jay we are going into the 5th year of the rebuild. The rebuild started at the 2022 draft. Korchinski, Nazar and Rinzel. That 5 drafts now. Remember the tear down is the easiest part of a rebuild.
Patrick Kane is still out there. Let him finish his career as a Hawk. Make him an offer. They had to pay Bedard big or risk getting an offer sheet higher than 15million. In the long run, they saved money.
I know everyone is a homer but 5 years also puts pressure on Bedard to stay healthy and to excel. If he does great he breaks the bank in 5 years. Nothing is a given. As for Kane please go to Buffalo the Kane era is over.
Kaner makes sense for Bhawks. The question is does it make sense for Kaner?
You have to be a certain age or have a certain number of years in the league before you qualify for a NMC
This is fair. And the 5 years actually gives the Hawks more flexibility to build around Bedard. If he signed 8 years, that would include three UFA years — So the average would have probably been 17.25 or higher. This leaves at least $2 million a year for the next five years to use. The cap will much higher in five years and Bedard will be a lot more expensive if he lives up to expectations.
Love you guys, but the y'all are way too close to the cameras.
LOL @ podcasters saying “all of us are comfortable with Bedard signing a 15 AAV contract” Are you sure, you’re happy with that ?? I’m betting Bedard is happy he’s got your blessing.
This is such a team friendly contract. 5 years is completely understandable, he's already given 3 years, the Hawks have 5 years to get it into gear if they are in the playoffs of course he'll resign.
Now I want to see minimum 3 playoff appearances over the length of this deal, with one of those being advancing to WCF.
wtf why ?
Maybe we can fall into an 8th seed ? Or maybe a .500 season how low is the bar for this team ?
Boysen Berry Pie For everybody
It's a great deal for the Hawks. 5 years with taking less money should give Davidson the flexibility to use the extra money to spend it to improve the roster. For Bedard, he's got to play up to his contract. He's now a pro and as any superstar who is getting their first NHL contract will have high expectations. Once Bedard is back in November, I expect 80-90+ points. I don't expect anything less.
Is Mario the Wolfman Lon Chaney Reincarnated
Funny you three Bozo's said no to Kane three weeks ago Jay was scolding all of us now you are all back on the Kane train ass clowns🤡
lots of cap space still with the expiring deals and no reason to pay Levshunov or Rinzel much yet unless they take a huge step.
