  1. It’s worse than lack of talent. There’s now a culture of negativity, secrecy, and politics. He lost the ENTIRE locker room when he said, I don’t believe in this team, year after year, finally saying “obviously we need better players” to end the season. Then we watch the guys he’s moved play better. We see our players perform with heart and grit in the Olympics! This is Steve’s toxic style. Not good

  2. The feud has been a public relations disaster that became unhealthy for the organization and the fan base.
As the owner ,Ilitch had to make a move no matter how distasteful.
I believe the Wings need to move on from Larkin as well ,irrespective of the cost.
If you watched the playoffs the last few years, you can see the Wings are totally out of sync with the winning teams. They need a complete change of philosophy.

  3. If there was a blow up, how about Steve wants to spend money and Chris Illich doesn't want to spend the money. Just look at the Tigers as a prime example. GM cant do anything without owner signing off.

  4. Yall let a crappy gm run the organization into the ground because he was a hero on the ice. Now you have no centers worth anything and the few good players you have don’t want to resign. Mo and razor are probably going to want out too then you’ll say I never liked them anyway. Wings fans are clowns and deserve the worst.

  5. Only Criticism I have Chris I is spending on the management side not on the Salary Cap. if Pro Scouting is a problem, they should go out and buy the best pro scouts in the league. How is a team that is worth as much as the Wings don't even implement a analytics department in some capacity in the modern era of the NHL. The Wings front office and its structure is definitely lacking compared to the best teams in the league.

  6. You're completely wrong on the lack of talent. You named all those 1st and 2nd round picks that we've had since he got here…none of that matters when you aren't getting a top 3 pick. We have been essentially cursed with our draft positioning. Our end of season records for a couple of years should've resulted in top 3 picks but the balls fell the wrong way. The prospect pool was completely barren when Ken Holland got through with it. I mean it was an utter wasteland. Zadina and Svechnikov were our best prospects and where are they now!? Context does matter. This rebuild was never going to be quick unless you stripped everything down to the bones and traded every star player, which Red Wings nation would have never allowed. Hence why, we didn't get rid of Larkin and Red Wings fans were totally okay with that at the time. Or your team is in a big market, with massive funds and a desirable city in the US. But that isn't the important part, the important part is the picks that Yzerman has made have been good picks and are making contributions on this roster right now (Simon-pick 6, Seider-pick 6, Raymond- pick 4, Kasper-pick 8) and many of our other picks are literally on the verge of making contributions to this roster.

Top 3 picks develop very quickly and sometimes make the NHL roster in a year or two after getting drafted. Any pick after that is going to college or juniors then doing the whole AHL thing until the are ready. So picks 4 and beyond can typically take anywhere from 3-4 years to permanently have a spot on the roster. Most later round picks don't even make it. So it is comical that people are using the picks to judge the prospect pool. The Red Wings have had one of the better prospect pools in the NHL the last few years and they still do.

If MBN and Danielson make the roster this year for good. That will be 6 out of 8 first round picks that Yzerman drafted, who will have made the roster and will be contributing to this team. That leaves Bear and Hurlbert as the remaining first rounders. Very good chance Bear makes the roster next year if he puts on enough weight. I think we need to stop lying to ourselves. Yzerman has done one amazing job at building the prospect pool that was completely barren. This was a playoff roster the last two years with all the noise out there. Tbh, they overachieved and that is because Yzerman has actually done decent with what he has had to work with. I'm not saying it was a Stanley cup roster but it was a playoff roster that has been led by a faux 1C who isn't really a leader and not a franchise guy. Good to great player but not franchise by any means. We should've moved on from him. We didn't. Yzerman hasn't gone after any good free agents but he also didn't want to pair anyone with Larkin because he knew that he had one foot out the door and that he also is a 2nd line player on a deep playoff roster.

I'm disappointed Yzerman is out because he did a great job with the draft position that he had. We have been seeing the fruits and we will continue to see the prospects (he drafted) contribute to this team whether he is gone or not. So he deserves credit for that. This new GM needs to figure out a way to get rid of Larkin. Larkin being the face of a team in the NHL is the most embarrassing thing ever. He isn't a 1C, so you can't expect to be good when your 1C is actually a 2C and your best player. You're never going to go anywhere if this continues. I believe Yzerman has wanted to get rid of him for a long while but couldn't find a way how (With ownership and the fans being obsessed with a MI born player) and unfortunately the Red Wings got rid of him first.

  7. Guys I know I’m late, but you need to do this. Do a “CTRL+F” in the post game interviews for how many times players said in an excusatory manner: “At the end of the day, it’s a business.” Which is what Steve said when he traded bertuzzi and krewe. Timeline is: that first bit of shakeup when he traded guys like mantha, athenesiou, bertuzzi, etc till last year in March.

  8. News flash…the org looks bad already regardless of if he gets traded–THAT SHIP HAS SAILED. Good plan Chris–make it look worse by taking a shitty trade package for a real asset. I'm not watch if they do that. Make him go out there until at least the trade deadline.
